Any Way Of Modifying My Live Profile To A Local One?
« on: March 05, 2010, 10:41:00 AM »

I've been hunting for a tool with which I could do this for a while now, so far no luck, wondered if 'd missed something.

Basically my aim is to convert my old LIVE account to an offline one in order to retain all save games, achievements, etc but lose the nag about signing into live all the time.

I guessed that part myself but unfortunately you still get a nag screen telling you that xbox live is blocked on this console, I really just want to convert it to an offline one somehow, or possibly create an offline one and then transfer all my stuff to it if that's possible.

Oh yeah, on a side-note, I found out to day that when a previously jtagged console gets banned from Live, it loses no functionality that I could see though I am prepared to look into anything that anyone cares to ask.

Weird, my console doesn't nag me at all, and like I said, I just have the Parental Controls XBL block on and the auto-sign in enabled for my GT.

Cool, there's no nag screen. Is there any way to convert a Live profile to a local/offline one? Workarounds are all well and good, but some of us prefer a fix. My first thought is another XBR patch could be made, to jump out of the Live sign-in attempt without doing anything, but I've got no debug access...

One of the previous posts pointed me at an app called modio, I can confirm that I have successfully converted one of my LIVE profiles to an offline one, took some fiddling but I got there in the end.  I was going to write up a little tutorial on how I did it but the program seems to have packed up on me (constant freezing).  Hopefully a reset or something will correct matters.

Either way, consider this one solved.

Can you give a basic idea of what you did? I've tried Modio in the past, I get the Account loaded, but under Service I have two options; Partnernet or Xbox LIVE. I haven't been able to find any other way to do this - any help would be much appreciated.

I won't lie, I managed to do one, then I had a few drinks and tried again and couldn't do it.

Tomorrow I intend to attempt to do the other one again, I believe that what I actually did was to extract the Account file from the Profile of an offline that I had created, changed the gamertag of that Account file to the name of my own, injected that Account file into my profile, rehashed and signed everything then over-wrote my profile.

I'll know better tomorrow given some sleep wink.gif

Haha, that's what I just did after having a brainstorm moment. It still shows as Live in some places but never tries to sign in, so that's good enough for me.

Steps;
MAKE BACKUPS BEFORE ANY SAVES. I won't tell you when that is, use your brain.

Copy your profile (hdd1/Content/E<whatever>/FFFE07D1/00010000/E<whatever>) to your PC.
Create another profile, offline non-Live (Or use another profile, doesn't matter) and copy it too.
Open Modio.
Use the drop-down to find the Profile editor.
Open the OFFLINE Profile, Extract the account, tell it where to save it and name it somethning you'll remember. Click Yes to load it, Decrypt the account, rename the Gamertag to match yours. Close it.
Open the ONLINE/to-be-edited profile. Inject the other account - the one you saved in the step above - into it, using the Inject button. Close it.
You may or may not need to resign/rehash the profile by drag-and-dropping the profile into Modio, and clicking Rehash and Resign. I do it anyways, it's good practice. Upload it, overwriting your old one - remember the backups? Hope you have them, just in case.

Done. YMMV.

spot on, I was just about to type the same steps up properly myself.  The only mistake I made (which I blame on a certain black Irish alcoholic fluid) was that I over-wrote my backups, hopefully I won't be needing them any time soon.

Have fun and stay off the Guinness!

How are you guys copying your profile to the pc?  I tried doing it to a usb drive and over FTP with XeXmenu, but everytime the file in FFFE07D1/00010000/ fails to copy.  No errors, it's just not there on USB and I can't recall the error I get with FTP.  Any ideas?

You can't copy an active profile, using USB or FTP. You have to log into another one, or just not sign in to a profile. When XexMenu asks about signing in to a profile, hit B and it'll launch without logging in. XexMenu fails silently - which is retarded - any time there's a file-in-use error, copying or otherwise. Easy mistake to make, don't worry about it.

But just for the record since you asked - I use FTP.

I thought that may have been the problem, but didn't think to "just hit B".  I feel like an idiot.  I backed up my 20GB stock hard drive before upgrading, but was frustrated to learn that I failed to backup my profile when I tried to restore from USB to new internal drive.
