How come the stock HDD's are said to have 10 GB's but you can only use roughly 4? I get like 2.76GB on E:\ and only like 2.45GB on F:\.... where is the other 6 gigs at?
?

First it is not a true 10 gigs. 2nd the msdash and other stuff take up some space also so however you look at it you will never get a full 10gigs from an xbox hdd.

The xBox HDD is 8GB, at least last time I checked. Don't diss it though, I mean, PS2 doesn't even have one at all (except an external USB one, more $$) Stop bashing their product, when you can go out and replace it with another one.

here is the layout
C 500mb
E 5.7gb (or around there)
F blank
X 700mb
Y 700mb
Z 700mb
F is blank by default, and is about 2 gb
you just have a bunch of shit on E is the reason.

All harddrives are less than there stated size when formatted. Don't bash. My 160 gig has only 152 gigs formatted and thats a storage drive not an OS.

its got to do with the binary to decimal conversion
1024mb=1gb
1000mb=1gb
1024/=1000
so they sell HDs in decimal and you format them and read them in binary, accounting for a loss of 2.34375% per gb... i think... i just did this off the top of my head, and the numbers seem right.

Its not because its formatted. Read the drive carefully...they say 160Gb but mean 160,000,000,000 bytes....which equals about 150Gb.

199.99 is way too much for a 160
But does anyone really care whether they get a true 160gb or not much less @ 152.5 gb?

well, use the ftp in ava to copy the C and E folders to the PC, and F is there is anything on it, and use slayers to format the HD, and use the slayers ftp to copy the data back to the HD
