360 Modification USB Drive v1.6 Revision 4
« Reply #45 on: September 15, 2009, 02:16:00 PM »

I tried this on my iX 1.4 samsung and it ended up w/ Error 65 aka brick/blank/wrong dvd key. Dunno about everyone else here, but this "tool" sucks. Tried using it to flash my own custom-made 1.6 w/ my original's dvd key injected and to no avail. If you want to do people a favor make very simple and direct read, inject key, write tools like iprep. Oldies worked 100% and IMO people who can't write out several commands via prompt don't need their 360s modded.

Thanks for this tool, my launch console finally died this morning.  Using this tool I was able to flash a 80850C with no problems.   Nice work, and simple to use.

Blaster3 i have to hook my serial cable from my pc to the ck3 kit and wile going through the steps i picked com 1 like the old liteon just dont use a spear. I no i should not have to do these steps for the 83850c  but its the only way it works on mp pc for some reason. Give it a try maybe it will fix you error.

Well, iXtreme v1.6 runs at 12x which is roughly twice as fast as the drive normally runs stock, and this can be a problem with older lasers, because the extra speed stresses the laser and causes the 'open tray' problem.

The best option would be to replace your laser, since it is going to die relatively soon anyway. However if you wanted to go back to stock, just use the ORIG.BIN file that was saved on to the USB drive, and use the 'CUSTOM' menus to reflash the ORIG.BIN file on to your drive.

However - flashing the ORIG.BIN won't fix the problem. Even with your stock firmware you will still have 'open tray' problems regardless due to the fact that your laser is going out... sad.gif

Samsung and Hitachi drives are notorious for bad lasers. sad.gif

Thanks for the speedy reply however I forgot to mention that it still plays original games and dvd movies, sorry to be a pain.  Any ideas??  Thanks again

What kind of media are you using?

Are you 100% sure you dumped and burned the game correctly?

What speed did you burn your backup disc at?

Usually the 'open tray' issue happens when you either have a bad laser, or the laser can't read the disc (which can easily be caused by incompatible or cheap media).

In my experience Memorex discs are terrible with Samsung/Hitachi drives... I recommend using Verbatim, Sony or TDK discs. happy.gif

I keep getting the following error when booting to my USB flash drive

Error writing to drive C: Write protection violation attempted

It then gives me the option to ignore, retry, or abort

After hitting ignore like 5 times, it took me thru the regular setup steps.. once I selected what drive I had I got the same error.. so it's not something i can simply "ignore" (unfortunately)

Any ideas what's wrong?

Hello, Im pretty new at the xbox scene, but ive done my homework ( biggrin.gif ) and i have some questions. I've just bought a second hand Xbox360.
It has a Samsung MS25 installed and i was wondering if with the 360 Modification USB Drive v1.6 Revision 4 i need and any extra hardware support to mod it like the CK3 for Liteon drives. If i do need one i know what to do. But if i dont need one, just the 360 Modification USB Drive v1.6 Revision 4 is enough (including sata cable+ power corde + pc) for the installation of the CFW?

My brother also got as a birthday present a Xbox360 with a Liteon DG-16D2S 74850c. Do i necessary need that extra hardware to install the CFW, isnt there any software replacement? I want to avoid opening the drive cause im a bit clumpsy  sad.gif

And Frostythesnowman i can see you've put big effort and love into this project you and your pals.
I congrats you all and thanks in advance for your answer.

P.S. Hey do try and make a PS3 modded plz! its a pity that noone tried hard enough all this years...

P.S.2 Oh and a last one. Its o.k. if i use iXtreme 1.6 for the Samsung drive right? Its included in 360 Modification USB Drive v1.6 Revision 4?

angelos_gr:
samsung's m25's are the easiest to flash, you dont need anything else other then what you've listed, no need for CK3.
i flashed my samsung m25 with frosty's tool.
i forgot to mention, you need a VIA 6421 Chipset PCI SATA card. get one off ebay, i got mine for $10 from china, but it works (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

question though, iXtreme 1.61 came out today, are you going to release a update frosty? Or what?

Same thing; i'm guessing our drives is the newer drives that aren't writeable/readable? Mine was manufactured in aug '09.

I don't want to give up quite yet though; any thoughts?
