Backups Not Working
« on: August 03, 2009, 10:24:00 PM »

I have been trying to make a back up of my UFC game with my SH-D163B Kreon drive and was finally able to get it to allow me to unlock the drive (v2.9 is the only one that allows me to do so).

I was able to make an ISO of the game and all looks well. I stealth check it with XBC and it checks out fine and then i check it with abgx360 and it passed everything. I burned it to a Verbatim DL and it can't be read on my 360 (running iXtreme 1.6). I have burned a game from a iso my friend made to test and it works fine on my 360.

Am i doing something wrong?
Here is the log file from abgx360.

BenQ

I figured as much... BenQ drives are picky drives at times. :\  i have a backup of COD WaW that WILL NOT play on my benq falcon. but it will play on my samsung xenon and opus  as well as my liteon falcon and jasper.  so it may be the drive. :\ first i would try cleaning the laser. if that doesnt work then if you have a spare drive try flashing it with your fw/key and using that in place of the BenQ and see if it works.  do most or all of your other backups work?

its odd because it when i insert these "non-working" discs in my BenQ 360 it comes up as "Play DVD" and it plays the 360 logo as it I inserted the disc into my PC. I' ll try and clean the laser. I have a Hitachi 78FK drive that I could replace it with. Is there a guide on replacing the BenQ with this drive?

Got it fixed.
I changed my BenQ drive for a Samsung H943 M25 and all my backups work.

Even my cheap-o Memorex discs work just fine.
The drive is noisy as frick, but it works!

BenQ are better drives so try fix that.
New laser assembly should fix the problem.
Then you wont have to put up with the loud and some times stuck drive tray of the samsungs.

that is argueable sir.  "better" is oppionated information.  if you can show some actual proof they are better than that can be a true statement.  benq's are picky as heck when it comes to backups a lot of times,  samsung drives will read anything you throw at them.  however the laser in these years is old and needing to replaced, same with the rubber band that open/closes the drive tray causing the "sticky drive" problem.  ok so the benq is quieter big deal. a liteon is better than that...  liteon currently is the best drive out.  reads anything you throw at it (in my experience), very quiet (for those who complain about that).  HOWEVER seeing as how the liteon and the benq are physically identical other than the logic board i guess they arent too bad. and they are easier to flash.

all in all.  it depends on the user, UNLESS its a liteon.  then its the best period.
