Never mind! I got it to work now I am having trouble connecting the serial cable to read my lite-on drive. This will seem like a noob question but do i just stick the probe into the hole as shown on the diagram next to R707 or do I need to probe R707 directly?

Yes, simply stick the probe into the R707 hole as shown in the picture. smile.gif

Well its been a long time since ive updated.  Ive had 1.4 on all 3 boxes since it was released and figured i'd go ahead and update.

Ran into a problem though and im still not sure how i was screwing up.

I ran you AWESOME usb mod and it couldn't find my original key.  ????

It said in red something like "Original key not valid (or found)"

I opened up the firmware toolbox and injected my key (that I had backed up 2 years ago) into the sammy folder in the  "360 usb files" folder and it worked fine.

Isnt this usb mod supposed to just read your current firmware, extract the key, then inject it into the 1.6 firmware that comes with the package?

Anybody know why I had to do it manually?  Nothing else went wrong except it just refused to see a key in the firmware that ive been using forever.  Weird.

Sadly I reverted back to my old firmware after all of that.  (1.4)

There is no way im using any firmware with 12X speed.  Ive installed too many mods (fans, custom case, dampening material) to have an xbox that sounds like a VACUUM CLEANER.

Awesome stuff as always though frosty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(and no disrespect to C4E and Team HyperX, I know you guys have a reason for the 12X and appreciate your work!!!)

@Heet:

Yeah, it's all supposed to be automatic... not sure why your original key didn't read correctly, thats the first i've heard of an error like that.

Thanks for the complement on the software though! smile.gif

Honestly it might have just been something funny with your Samsung drive, i'm not sure, probably just a fluke.

Give the software another try again in the future, i'm sure it will work as expected. happy.gif

Frosty are you still planning to release revision 2 of the disk tonight or do you still have some bugs to work out? No hurry just looking forward too it. Thanks for all the hard work you put into it all.

Still working out some bugs. sad.gif

Hopefully it will be released sometime tomorrow.

In the meantime though, I was doing some searching, and I found a tool that allows you to boot USB drives on non-USB bootable BIOSes.

It's called PLoP Boot Manager, and I have been able to successfully boot my USB version of my software with this on a non-USB bootable PC.

It includes a bootable ISO in the main package, just burn it, boot the disc, then choose the 'Boot USB' option.

Feel free to give it a try, you can find the newest version, PLoP Boot Manager v5.0, here:

wow if that realy possible then there is no need for CD version of your software. just concentrate on your USB project. and also I think you must include this soft with your project as an addon.

Yep, it is possible.

I need some feedback on how well it works though, because so far it only worked for me on 1 out of 2 non-USB bootable PCs.

There's no risk in trying it, either it will work on your PC or it won't, but if you guys could test it out on your own PCs and let me know how well it works, it would be much appreciated. smile.gif

Ideally, I would like to discontinue the disc version eventually, as it is becoming very limited in ability in comparison to the much superior USB version, but for now I will continue to work on the CD version too. smile.gif

Frosty I tried the the pLoP boot manager and when i pick the usb option it tries to scan for the usb but just freezes every time i even tried the evil wise boot disc from a earlier post and it does the same, so still no luck on booting from usb. I seen you were looking for feedback and this is what has happened for me so far.

Have you tried the 3 available USB boot options?

I believe they are OHCI, UHCI, EHCI?

After choosing 'USB' you should see three options to choose from, then it should boot. (hopefully)  huh.gif

Sounds like your BIOS is being stubborn, my other non-USB bootable PC did the same thing. (but the other one worked)

It's kind of a crap shoot with compatibility and the PLoP Boot Manager...

I got my hands on a 2GB USB and I made everything it says, then I restart my PC go into  BIOS and then driver priorities and select 1. priority removable disk. When I leter exit bios and the computer restarts, it says that it cant read ore something like that(the same thing if you dont have eny operation sistem instalet). Does this mean my PC cant boot from a USB(which PC part is important to boot from USB, because I dont have a so old PC). Then I tried with the PLoP Boot Manager. but dont now how to use it, ifenyone has gotten a god tutorial I would realy grateful.
Thanks

Sorry for the mistakes I was in a hurry tongue.gif

Yes, you can mod your drive using just a USB key!
Step by step instructions.  So easy a caveman could do it!

Frosty i was trying my first liteon drive and it was going fine then when it got to the part where i erases the drive my computer just turned off and rebooted. I looked at the back up key and it is only 1kb. I tried to flash it again and it went through the whole process and seemed like it worked then i checked the dumped files again now they still all have 1kb except the ixtreme file is normal 256kb. Is there any way to recover the original key or did i just get a strange glitch that bricked it?
