« Reply #60 on: June 16, 2009, 02:44:00 AM »

Djpj - u think that sucks, I didnt even play red faction yet i just put the disk in the drive last week to make sure the burn worked since i was having issues with a burner and switched to a new burner and that was the game i reburned to test it out :-(

i have since deleted ini as per instructions and rescanned with agbx360 got the correct dmi now and trashed the old disc, how ever i have not loaded the new burned disc yet.

What if Red Faction Guerrilla does not have the corrupt dmi OR THE corrected one but something different like:
6750F252
Where is that number from then?

That does seem strange. Why would the logs from several months back be edited now ? Does the DMI really get read or not ? If so, since when.

edit: the code does seem to be the same after it Reads PFI. Looks like the only thing that was edited were the notes. Still seems like weird timing though.

I know this will come off as absurd but it must be said

The xbins logs for the past few months have been edited within the past few hours. Previously, no trace of DMI in the comments for the commands was present until just recently as you have scouted out.

As in I had gone through them and CTRL+F -> "DMI" through all of those just to find out how worried I should be about ABGX's little screwup.
Here is the google cache of the most recent log, compare it for yourself

if you look in the past bin version you posted  and compare it to a newer live log 5/27
the  past bin aka older version still has the same code but just dose not say read dmi on the second line that's all so. since the code is the same on both you would think it was still reading it even in the old version to cause the code was the same .
past bin version/old version
AD 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 18 00 00 Read PFI
AD 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 08 04 00 00
and new 5/27
AD 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 18 00 00 Read PFI
AD 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 08 04 00 00 Read DMI
or at least thats what i see there but i may not be 100%

I dont know if it makes a difference but I ripped my Kung Fu Panda game that came with a Bundle and ABGX changed the stealth files to its verified version.

That does seem strange. Why would the logs from several months back be edited now ? Does the DMI really get read or not ? If so, since when.

edit: the code does seem to be the same after it Reads PFI. Looks like the only thing that was edited were the notes. Still seems like weird timing though.

Originally they tried to read the entire area where the PFI/DMI was stored.  Once they knew more about the ixtreme firmware and how it worked, they started to read each of these sections seperately.  When MS did that, I believe they were missing part of the DMI by accident.  So about a year ago, live changed the offsets and lengths for the PFI/DMI checks to be more accurate.

I believe the logs used to say "read PFI/DMI" on one of the lines, but someone changed it to "read PFI" once they realised the 4 bits were missing. And whoever matched up the old offsets with the new offsets didn't realise that the extra 4 bits now included the DMI.

But everyone knew they have been reading the PFI+DMI since ~ixtreme 1.3.  It probably took someone saying that they didn't see the DMI being read in the live logs for them to realise that they were actually missing in the comments.

That just doesn't explain why they did this. I see no good reason for doing so. It's obvious that someone is trying to hide some big mistake (or worse) from the general public. Good job spotting that.

In the next ban wave I can see they saying things like "oh sorry but we never said it was safe, you knew the risks". Like, it's never their fault, of course.

I wouldn't adjust angles on the SS if I was you.

Why not? I'm pretty sure I have some backups with adjusted angles, even though I started on a firmware where that wasn't a problem.

i wonder if the DMI was fine before the autofix. ABGX says its stealth either way. I fixed my copy of Red Faction just in case. That could have been a good or bad thing who knows. In the end, i dont really care. If i get hit with the hammer again ill just get a new console.

I kinda feel the same way. Ive never been banned for live and Ive had it pretty much as long as it's been around. I went online with a 'bad' copy of red faction so if it happens it happens. My UFC seems to be fine however.

EDIT: The best solution, and this is what I did last gen, is to have a hacked box and a 100% stock live box.

well i have 2 hacked boxes, one of them i had placed the red faction game in it before i realized that abgx360 had currupted the dmi on it.  I didnt play red faction on it i actually havent even played any games on it in 2 weeks. but i heard just placing a game in the drive (it doesn't show up on played games list) to see if it reads the disc which is what i did, will still get you banned.

so i have since rescanned the iso and burned again with the correct dmi. I still have another hacked box, a jasper one too, so if my other one gets banned at least i didnt fuck up on the jasper.

so now that i deleted the .ini file and rescanned iso got the correct dmi crc and reburned. that new red faction is safe to play right?

The live logs are the same either way--notes or no notes.  If you know how to read them without the notes, then you may have some ground to talk, but I'm pretty sure you don't.  A DMI read is still a DMI read whether or not it's spelled out in the notes for noobs to read.

Everyone knows the risk.  Taking that risk is completely your fault.  If you did not know the risk, you're a dumb ass and you should really do more reading before modifying anything.  Nobody's trying to set you up for failure, but shit happens, and everyone should understand that.  And who are the "they" you speak of?  The ones telling you to STFU, stop crying, and it IS YOUR FAULT will be regular users like me that understand the risk, not the developers.
