360 Modification USB Drive v1.6 Revision 2
« Reply #60 on: June 23, 2009, 08:31:00 PM »

Hi, I was reading through the Jungleflasher tutorial, but this seems a whole lot simpler. I also read that I had to use a different kind of driver for my SATA card. Do I have to alter it in order to use this application, or is the custom driver good enough?
Thanks in advance!

I'm getting the error reading drive C that I was getting before when typing in Samsung, but now I get it when it starts autoexec.bat

I think it was write access violation

My software doesn't use Windows drivers at all, so it won't matter, it will work regardless of what drivers you have installed. smile.gif

Have you tried using a different USB drive?

Hey Frosty ....just checking to see when REVISION 3 was going to be released. REVISION 2 works perfectly but I am all about when you release something new.
thanks again for a great app

Hopefully tomorrow. smile.gif

Here's a list of changes for Revision 3:

 - Powerpoint-style walkthrough with images (DOS based PNG viewer used in my scripting for displaying each screen/step)
 - General code cleanup on all scripts
 - Disclaimer screen added
 - Drive dumping option added to the 'Advanced Options' menu

It's gonna be SO pretty, this *might* be the most user-friendly flashing utility ever made for the 360 after this version comes out. happy.gif

Look for it around midnight tomorrow night!

Are you saying that it is going to automatically dump the original firmware and put it in the folder with all the other files? That sounds pretty cool if you are doing that, just to always have the original firmware for anything that you might need it for for the future.

Thansk for the update and I cant wait to see the GUI

(Can we get a taste of the GUI with a screenshot?)

I'll try that later tonight. One thing I did try was using the USB on a different pc and it did not give me the error. The original pc that I use to flash drives that I received the error on has an EVGA 680i. I've tried it with hard drives plugged in and without, but it receives that error every time.

Have you tried creating your USB drive with the MS-DOS system files instead of the FreeDOS system files?

The included tutorial can walk you through doing this. smile.gif

Well, my software already dumps your firmware for you as part of the 'automatic flashing process' but the 'advanced menu' just allows you to do certain steps manually, like dumping the current firmware manually, or flashing a file of the user's choice on to the drive of their choice. (so slightly different than the automatic process)

Aside from that though, here's a 'teaser' shot of the first step of the automatic flashing process on a Samsung drive on Revision 3:

NOTE: After pressing 'ESC' when you see this step, the software automatically dumps the firmware, and then would show you the 'Step 2' image, which would explain what to do before erasing, then it will erase your drive, etc. etc. So basically the flashing process now has images and a full tutorial for each step in the process WHILE it is walking you through flashing your drive. Spiffy, huh?

Yeah I tried that and it froze up when it was trying to boot. I think it was when it was at the XRamDrive portion. Sorry if I said the name wrong it was X something

I tried it with 3 different USB stick on my 680i and received the same error. 1 was 1GB and the other 2 where 64mb I also tried different USB ports.

I pressed F8 to go through autoexec.bat step by step to show you what is causing it.

Does it do that with the MS-DOS system files too?

If so, then it sounds like your BIOS on that machine does not allow you to write to a USB boot device... have you tried a BIOS update?

Hi Frosty,

My Benq 360 fried.  I bought a new unit but it has a Lite on drive.  Can your USB utility flash the lite on IF I
have a Ctk lite and probe?  Or do I need the keys first?

Can anyone point me to a "lite on Frosty USB tut"?

Thank you for your time,

2grren

Thanks Frosty! I managed to successfully flash my Benq drive!
Now I have one quick question, I also have a LiteOn drive, but I have a USB based extractor. So I know I have to extract my key on my own, but after that, I guess I have to patch it on my own, and then put it in the custom folder, or is there a way to just put my key and have your program patch it and then write it?
Thanks again!

Yeah, the drive is not being erased properly then...

You might need to try a different SATA chipset, or you might need to purchase a VT6421...

You are 100% sure that you are using the correct port for your SATA chipset?

Hello Frosty you were helping me a few pages back and this was your last response to me..It seems my drive was not erasing but the program saying it went successful ...After looking around I found a specialty  shop that sold a card that I knew was a VT6421 card it arrived today and I was really happy because I thought I was all done but it seems that I am still having the same exact problem...I was wondering If you could give me any other advice I should try ? My drive was a lite-on and I have all of the files saved I just need to flash the drive...Thanks for any help...
