Is XBOX1 game compatibility still broken?

It's not the this tool that breaks it, it's the method you use to transfer the partition. Took me several attempts to finally get mine working. I would recommend using Datel's Xport 360 software instead of Xplorer360, as it's a lot more reliable detecting all the partitions correctly, and I'd go so far as to say it's about twice as fast injecting and extracting files. After tinkering for hours wiping and restoring files trying to get the backwards compatibility to work, I finally discovered the following method. This has worked for me several times now, successfully using this system for a few of my friend's new HDDs:

1) Used Xport 360 to make an image backup of my original 20gig HDD.
2) Used HDDHackr to install 120gig SS to new WD Bevs drive
3) Used Xport 360 to do a FULL image restore of the 20gig bin image to the 120 gig drive. (Ignore every guide out there that tells you to not todo this) Yes, this will make the drive 20gigs, but only temporarily.
4) Use HDDHackr a second time, and once again apply the 120gig SS to the WD Bevs. This will corrupt the last partition with the 360 save data, but the other partitions including the backwards compatibility section will function 100%
5) Connect WD Bevs to Xbox 360, and use the System menu to format the HDD. This will ONLY format the last partition with the 360 content. It will not touch anything else.
6) Connect  the WD Bevs to your Windows machine again. Manually extract all your 360 content from your 20gig bin image, then manually inject it back into your now freshly formatted partition of the new WD Bevs. Alternatively, if you have it, use the official M$ 360 Transfer Kit to transfer from the 20gig to the 120gig at this stage, since it only transfers that one partition also. This saves some time since it transfer the data in one shot.

Yes you have to jump through hoops, but it does solve the problem. Hope these instructions were clear.

I'd love to see someone's report myself on loading times with a Raptor using NXE hdd installs. I was hoping since day 1 this tool came out they would add support for the WD VR, but when NXE hdd loading was announced, that sealed the deal for me.

quick question.. I have a few sata drives lying around made by different manufactures "none that are supported"..

is it as simple as using a program like winhex to inject sectors 16-22 manually to make this work on other drives that are not supported?? I mean that way you can get your own copy of those sectors to make your backup and from there inject the relevant info and then use as a 360 hdd??

that way people with laptops only that have a usb-sata adapter "found in external hdd cases" may do this to there hdd's.. maybe im way off if so just point that out.

I would love to do this but if I can do it with hardware I already have instead of buying a new hdd, that would be awesome..

I mean the point is to save money and do it yourself right?? why not make any hdd work for you.?

The Specialist has said it would be possible to support other drives, but he doesn't want to do it because it takes too much time. It's in the FAQ for the previous version.

LOL, the Raptor series. Why would you want to put that in a 360. Its a wast of money because it is more useful in a desktop. Besides, you would need to solder and extra 12v line because that drive won't power off of 5 volts. Plus your taking away the cooling from the hard drive, no doubt you will get a shorter lifespan.

loading times, 'nuff said.
just put an 120mm fan over the giant heatsink.

besides, if people want to spend money on a raptor and slap it in a 360, let 'em.

I know what the specialist said as i did read the faq from start to Finnish.. and the part of his faq well this part exactly is what makes me think that my idea should work..

"FAQ:
Q. I get an error when I try to dump hddss.bin from a 120 gb HDD.
A. This version can't dump from an elite drive yet. You'll have to dump sectors 16-22 manually with a tool like winhex, save them as 'hddss.bin' and then continue like normal, with the hddhackr."

so one would think that you can do this in reverse  take sectors 16-22 of a backup hddss.bin file and inject the info into these sectors.. I mean all his tool is doing is automating this whole process I would think.

quick recap.. if he says you can dump sectors 16-22 with winhex why not inject those sectors with winhex?

just my idea please let me know what you think.

It never was broken, only for ignorant people who don't know how to backup\restore each partition correctly.

And I don't know why you couldn't be bothered to read 2 posts above yours.

Actually you dont need the original hard disk but need only the connector for this upgrade. Third party sata connector not ready yet. I think its on testing phase.

But again if u dont have the original HDSS.bin from your hard drive then you have to borrow it from some one else and thats illigal.

That is what he meant

AIUI, what this tool does is modify the firmware on the drive so's it identifies itself as the 360's model drive, rather than what it actually is. Much like you'd spoof a DVD drive. You could do this to any drive, all you'd need to do is reverse-engineer the firmware, make the necessary modifications, and write it to the drive. So there's nothing stopping you from doing this to any drive, if you have the time, the motivation, and the skills.

That is what he meant

'Cept most jurisdictions don't allow copyright to reside in a collection of mere facts. Even if you sign them. Because they're not a product of creativity. Most jurisdictions that do, also make it illegal to bypass an "effective technological measure", doctrine of first sale be damned. So you can't legally modify your drive's firmware to make it behave like this, even though you own the drive! Which means that the tool and the 'security sector' are probably just as legal (or illegal) as each other.

does anyone know when XBOX 360 SATA/Power connectors will be available?

at the moment, to me it looks like the only way to use an unofficial drive is to get the connector from an official one.

I've had a WD2500BEVT Scorpio Blue Series 250gb sitting here doing nothing for about a year and I forgot you could do this for the 360 but the question is will I be able to use it if its a 250gb? I dont care if I lose what ever gb to get it down to 120gb.

yes you can use it.

120GB will only be usable until larger HDD's come out & you can get the SS.bin from them.
