Vuze And You.
« on: February 11, 2009, 10:15:00 AM »

So I've been scouring the internet for a solid 6 hours now, this site being where I started, ending on FileShareFreaks.com and I have yet to find one comment, thread, review, or tutorial on streaming from Vuze to the 360 outside this one.

Now I know that just posting ^ that would lead to "Use WMP, use WMC" or other such programs. The cruel injustice here is, I've tried. I've tried everything from WMP11 to Tversity. I have access (albeit limited on the Windows side) to a PC that could've served in WWII running XP, and a fairly up to date Macbook running OS X 10.4, just so people know what I'm dealing with.

Anyways, I stumbled on this Torrent program literally just to get some torrents the other day, and when using the Trial Connect360 from the mac to watch all of 5 videos (I'm a student, I'm poor, I LIVE off $20 a week, so spending $20 on the full version isn't an option right now) and because I'm running 10.4, Rivet isn't an option either. Apologies for stumbling off topic. ANYWAYS, while finding my Macbook via my 360 to watch a tv show, I noticed Vuze on Macbook appeared as well. After some digging and finding that interview I posted earlier, apparently this Vuze program (previously known as Azureus) can stream WHATEVER it downloads to the 360.

The problem is, according to the video, you just let Vuze rip the torrent file and the *.avi, *.mp3, whatever you ripped, should be viewable in the Vuze folder on your 360. But on my xbox all I find in the Vuze connection is 4 files, all video (I've only done videos so far for Connect360), they're all exactly 2 minutes long, and none of them play because they're not a supported file. I THINK they're all *.avi (that's what my xbox tells me, anyways) but because none of them play, that leads me to believe they might be the torrent file. So I tried moving them to the torrent folder in the Vuze folder. No luck there either. I've tried just dropping the files in the Vuze folder, furiously trying to point the program at the giant "MOVIES" folder where I told it to drop the files (which it does).

Sorry. I've written a partial novel here. Does ANYONE know what I can do? Or had experience with this program and their 360? Windows or Mac? Any help would be much appreciated.

Time to scour a hundred more links.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

I didn't read your post, but based on the second one, I have to assume you want to stream video and music to your 360? If so, you CAN use tversity, but you can also use windows media player (11).

Yeah, I heard that. As well as Windows Media Connect, which was discontinued but still usable. But none of them seem to work for me. So I'm resigned to Vuze, which is there I just can't find where to put the files.

So through sheer force of curiousity and the complete uselessness of the internet in help (I guess mine is a unique case), this is how I went about solving this issue.

1) Boot up Vuze.

2) Locate your media. Music / Video, whatever. Make sure you know the path to get to it.

3) In Vuze, go to File.

4) Under File, go to Classic-Share

5) Under Classic-Share, go to Share Folder RECURSIVE NOTE** This is if you just want to share everything in Folders. In Classic-Share there is also just a "Share File" Option, you can also go that route.

6) Select the folder you wish to share.

7) The folder will begin seeding into your Library. WAIT until the folder is completely Qeued up. With music this will take a while. In my example, with 1750 songs, and 11 full length movies, it took about 25-30 minutes.

8) The content of your library will automatically stream to your xbox as long as in your preferences you have Streaming on.

So there's a fix for any mac users out there looking to NOT drop $20 on Connect360 or on Rivet. Totally free, totally works.

Oh. Quick sidenote. Make sure to remove the Torrent files from your "Unwatched" section of your Library, they'll show up as video/audio/whatever files on your 360 but won't play. If you just remove them from Library (not computer) They won't appear. Happy streaming! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
