Can't Get Usb Drive To Boot Into Dos
« on: September 10, 2008, 05:35:00 AM »

I'm trying to flash my BenQ drive. I'm having trouble getting my USB stick to launch DOS. I've tried it with HP boot disk maker and DOSFlasher and I've tried iPrep. I've turned everything off in the bios (except the USB ports), and I still get a boot failure. I've tried several different bios configurations, and still nothing.

After formatting it with the boot disk maker, there are no files on the stick.

After I format it with iPrep, there are some files, but it still doesn't boot the computer.

Anyone have any ideas I can try to get this to work?

Boot to dos using a cdrom. Booting from usb is not needed. All you have to do after you boot from your cd is cd to your usb directory.

A dos bootdisk is easy enough to find, old win98 install discs, etc.

This has been the way I have done all of my dos flashes (hddhackr, & Samsung M25).

What format should I burn the disk with? I've tried both the plain data files and img, and it still doesn't boot.

Also, I don't know if/why this would make a difference, but I'm using a dual booted PC, with the primary OS as Vista. iPrep doesn't work with Vista, so I installed XP since it's more compatible. Aside from not being able to create a working boot disk, I've gotten no errors with XP when using iPrep or the boot disk maker.

To follow up, I reinstalled XP because the partition I created for it was too small. Then I reformatted my USB drive with iPrep, and now it's gravy.

Oh, and by "USB drive" I mean PSP. smile.gif
