Problem With Xbc\schtrom And Sh-163b
« on: April 24, 2008, 10:22:00 PM »

I got the SH-D163B pre-flashed off ebay. I installed it in my Gigabyte GA-965P DS3 MB into a sata port with (i think) Intel ICH8 whatever its called. I got XBC 2.8 and started it, in SPTI mode only my IDE drive's name was displayed and when I tried to click on either of my Sata drives I got a logic error. I switched to ASPI and all three names were displayed but it would say no media in drive when I try to select. Messing with all different options I have never had the start button able to be selected. I tried Schtrom 3.4 and I think that it would get to 3% and say can't extract SS.bin. After trying to install XP unsuccessfully to try I settled for dualbooting Vista 32 bit (i have 64 installed), I was getting different errors for both programs but the drive wasn't recognized in XBC still. I then took the drive out and took it to my grandmas because she is the closest person with a sata port. I put it in and on her 32 bit Vista it worked. I brought it back home and went on ebay and got a 3 SATA + 1 IDE Port PCI Controller Card with VIA_VT6421 sata controller. I switched the drive to the main port on that and now in XBC it recognizes the drive in both modes and it regocnizes that there is a disk with 7.05 gigs in the drive, also it says that there is kreon 1.0 firmware on the drive. I still cannot select start and it doesn't say the name of the game. In Schtrom it says that the drive is compatable but is not flashed with kreon firmware. I have searched for almost a week and couldn't find anything that would solve it. Sorry for the long post. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.

I really cannot say with any certainty what the issue is.  I would check the configuration of you SATA ports on your motherboard. I dont thing the VIA_VT6421 has any real configuration so not much to do there. Check drivers make sure there isnt any other cd-rom-dvd type apps running in the background.  Last of all but maybe the best is to get yourself a SATA to USB adapter, that is actually how I run all my Kreon drives. I also sometimes had weird driver errors before but through the USB adapter it has been great.

Good luck

Hi,
Did you find an answer to this problem? I am having a similar issue with schtrom and the ss.bin.

I did a backup with XBC that took 11:??mins and seemed ok, I checked its stealth status once and all passed but now it just says 'end of file'.... When I try schtrom it always dies at ss.bin, then freezes up the whole machine until I turn it off.

This is my virgin try with 360 backups and it ain't going well..
Any help would be appreciated. I also have a 163B

The usb adapter finally came and it read a 360 original with no problem. Thanks for your help with the frustrating problem.

As for GroMmiT1982's question I'm sure a usb adapter wouldn't hurt and they are like $10 on ebay so I would try that as it worked for me.
