Stream Videos From External Hard Drive
« on: March 18, 2008, 11:04:00 PM »

MMM you have to be more specific here my friend.

If i get your correctly, you want to play some videos from your External Hard drive on your 360.

By external Hard drive do you mean an USB one? if you ment that you need to MAKE SURE your hard drive is formatted as FAT.

If your HD is smaller than 32GB you can do this using windows HD tools, If your HD is larger, you need to use something similar to Norton's Partition Magic.

here's more specifics.  i have a laptop connected wirelessly to a router.  my 360 is plugged into the router using an ethernet cord.  i have a usb 250 GB NTFS external hard drive connected to my laptop.  when i first hooked it up to the laptop and added files to the library, the videos from the external were able to stream fine to the 360.  however if i ever have to heaven forbid, reboot, the 360 shows no videos found.  why?

Just a follow-up since out of 177 views only one person replied and he couldn't help at all.  The way to correct this is to add the EnableRemoteAccessSharing key to the HME Preferences registry for windows media player.  Thanks a lot for nothing from this site

The description of your problem was very vauge and you gave no indication of things you had confirm to work or not work.

It's like saying, "I'm having trouble with my car, can you help me?"

Thanks for sharing your experience though, now someone else may be able to learn from it
