Trying To Wrap My Brain Around Hddhacker
« on: March 12, 2008, 08:40:00 AM »

I am trying to get things right in my head before I attempt the project..

One glaring issue is the issue of the kind of drive.

From reading, it seems to me that the WD Bevs/Scorpio drive is used because that's the bin file that is available.  Further extrapolating upon that idea, if you have a Hitachi hdss.bin file, you can use a Hitachi drive.  There is a Fujitsu hddss.bin file floating around, which stands to reason you can use a Fujitsu 120G HD..

Is that an accurate hypothesis??

Also, I wanted to know if using HDDhacker is completely transparent as far as LIVE and the user is concerned?  My son wants me to set him up with a 120G HD on his 360, but he doesn't want to have to futz with anything on the fly..  He wants to be able to use the HD as if it were a commercially purchased one with no muss and no fuss..  Is this doable?

Thanx

You cannot use a 120G Fujitsu as HDDhacker can only flash the firmare of the WD drives as far as I know.

As to using it online, I dont think anyone has been banned yet from using an unofficial drive, but it is always possible.

It can be a tricky process even if you have all the proper tools and HDD, so you might be better off just buying the official one.  I hate to say that, but I really had a tricky time with it, and I still do not use my 120Gig online as I really dont want a banned box.

Good Luck.
