It'll do the 78 with no problem. You'll need a passkey for the 79 though. That's why I don't see them coming up with the software option for the 79 when they're the ones selling the passkey. Think about it, would you? Unless someone else develops some software option for the 79, they don't need to. Maximus holds all the cards.

Yes, well sometimes a hardware solution is easier to implement than a software solution.
I'm sure he has his reasons, hopefully soon though.

Uhmm.. sorry to 2burst" your bubble, but even the original xecuter kit does NOT put a hitachi 78 into mode B... I have it, and it just does NOT do that... you're fine on 59 and below, but for a 78 you gotta use slax....

Oh good news then I saved a bit of cash. They still should describe what drives it will NOT work on for diygadget.com.

So Slax 2.0 can put the 78/79 in mode B and then you can read/flash the drive ?

I think I have slax 2.1 and it put my 78 into modeb.

WILL IT ALLOW IS TO PROPERLY PATCH OUR 79FL KEY (ADDRESS 4e10) into a ixteremv1.4 spoofed as a samsung MS28?

I can answer this one.  I had a customer bring me a 79FL where the PCB had been completely trashed.  I removed the SST and dumped it, had Toolbox insert the 0079 key and spoofing to a MS28 with iXtreme1.4, and flashed a TS-H943.  Worked fine.

QUOTE
can we DirecT Drive Flash----->Differential Flash {PATCH} with FWToolbox v4.6 a 79FL drive that was upgraded to ixterem v1.2 and spoofed as a 78 drive without using the 79Passkey?

I should be able to test this within 48 hours.  I have a 0079 flashed to iXtreme1.3 and we'll see how Toolbox likes it without a Passkey installed.

I'm curious about the bug fixes.  I used an older fw toolbox version with ixtreme 1.4 to spoof my ms25 as 78fk.  I'm wondering if I should redo it with the new version.

Works like a treat. I got into Mode B by switching on the drive (FK0078) on with open tray. (Obviously i had switched on the drive before, opened the tray and pulled the power-plug from the xbox).

Then i booted up to Windows, restored to original Firmware and patched to new 1.4 Ixtreme (from the Version that came with 4.0) with 5x speed. (no rebooting in between).

Thanks to c4e and Maximus.

Marcian,

THIS IS ABOUT 79 DRIVES (LOADED WITH IXTREME V1.2) AND HOW TO RE-FLASH WITHOUT THE 79PASSKEY BEING RE-INSTALELD---GOT IT!

Well, i thought, that this news post was about the new Maximus 360 Firmware Toolbox 4.6 release.

So nobody should be thankful to c4e and Maximus for their work. I think i now got it staple123.

Also i used the not-so-well-known but extremely easy mode to get to Mode b (not mentioned in the famous textbook-tuturorial afair). (I used ICH7 onboard S-ATA).

Staple123: You as the maximo leader of this great can feel free to ban me from the board.

bye bye

I'm hopeing a software method for flashing the 79 comes out soon.....cause I just got one.

I originally had a 78...but I got the RROD, then a few months ago I got a Benq, and today once again I was graced with the presence of the RROD, I just got back from Bestbuy from buying an "arcade" edition, and was Very Dissapointed to open it up and find a 79 in it.....grrrrrr.

god I wish MS would fix this damn problem.

I also wish Maximus would stop messing around and release the soft-flash for the 79 allready, I'm sure he's allready made a boat load of cash-money.

@staple123:

There is no need to garbage this thread with any arguing.

I have not shorted anything on my DVD-Drive, nor did i say i did. It is unclear to me at which point of the method i used it comes to critical timing. Perhaps you can send me a link, where it is stated that switching on the dvd drive with open tray will brick anything and so on. A PM will do it.

Also there is no point about discussing the selling rate of 78/79 drives. Fact is that you need the Maximus Toolbox for both of the drives and that this is the first version that comes with ixtreme 1.4 Firmware (+ it is the first time that i personally use the speed switching feature). I'm quite sure there might be some other users that actually own that v78 drive.

I didn't ask anybody to stop their discussion about the v79 drives, just wanted to state my experience with that new Toolbox and thank the people for doing that stuff for us.

Now i wish everybody with v79 drive a happy discussion.

Bye

Just my luck... I just got my 79 pass key and broke some of the traces while I close the drive cover. It's still working with original but I can't get the wires attached into it.
Now it's realy good time to release the new direct 79 flash versio!
