I'm also having this problem. Trying to get the new FWTB as I type this post, but mIRC says the channel is invite only.

Yeah my xbins is down to. Anyway I want to flash the new ixtreme 1.4 on my 78fk. Well I seem to have lost my orig.bin although I can get the key from the hacked firmware. Since there are like 6 different firmware versions of the 78. How can I tell which firmware it was originaly?. Thanks a link or any reply would be appreciated. Thanks

If you look at your hacked firmware in FWTB, next to "Key Information" should be the address your key for your drive starts at. My drive, for example, is a 78fk and the key starts at 4B00. Included within the FWTB folder should be the original hitachi firmware .bin files in another folder called "orig_fw" (or at least that's where mine are). If I had lost my original firmware, I would want the firmware named 78-4b00.bin. Then I can take the key from my hacked firmware, and put it in place of the original firmware.

Hope this helps you.

What about the 79FL drives that were modified by externally removing the DVD chip and then re-flashing with ixtreme v1.2.....the new firmware being spoofed to appear as a 78 drive with modeB tweaked into the firmware?

this should be reflashaeble just like any other 78 drive, but how to do it properly?

since the 79Passkey was never needed or used in this solution is a factor too...?
79FL drive ley location 4E10

I have the same question... I flashed my 0079 with passkey, but I removed the chip... Can I flash the new firmware using de tray open trick or I need to solder the chip again?

Same question here i have a 79FL which was flashed with the passkey then mod removed. Can i just force it into mode B and re-flash. If so how do i get into mode B?

Thanks for all involved with this.

Just patched my first xbox firmware Hitachi 78... had alot of problems getting it into modeb as I bought a cheap ass version of the connectivity kit from diygadget.com. Bit annoyed about that they do say it can "support for debug mode (on some DVD-ROMs)" should have checked deeper as it cannot do hitachi which I found out after alot of stuffing around. They should mention it on the description. Also my fault for being a tight ass and not buying the xecuter kit.

Slax was my savior smile.gif

Then the firmware mod worked a treat.

Thanks again

Uhmm.. sorry to 2burst" your bubble, but even the original xecuter kit does NOT put a hitachi 78 into mode B... I have it, and it just does NOT do that... you're fine on 59 and below, but for a 78 you gotta use slax....

So Slax 2.0 can put the 78/79 in mode B and then you can read/flash the drive ?

Guys xbins  does this sometimes. When something new comes out, it bogs down. Wait a bit and check back. It did the same thing when the iXtreme FW came out last week.
