Of coarse Encode 360 is still very useful.
Not everything comes in DivX....

Great job Dan!

Aren't those of us who still stream from Media Center still dependent upon Encode360? Divx/Xvid is only supported locally, right??

Right i can comment on the quality now...

Took the default settings which are basically the quickest.

Told it my xbox was on a lan and it re-encoded at 720p (same as source)

Started it and 5 hours later I had a wmv file sat on my pc.

Checked mkv size = 1.07 GB (1,153,900,080 bytes)
Checked wmv = 950 MB (996,720,640 bytes)

Fired up my 360 accepted the new update and played the file.

Excellent quality on my 32" lcd at 1360x768.  Slight pixellation on fast movement, but the quality is fine and I get 5.1 sound!

Of course I still have the option for higher quality reencodes, but I'm happy enough with the quickest option.

fyi using the tut I linked to further up in the thread took 26 hours and resulted in a stuttery video.

I have a p4 3.4 gig ht cpu with 2 gig of ram. Not state of the art, so 5 hours is perfectly acceptable as I can kick it off when I go to bed.

Those of you with dual and quad core cpu's will only have to wait a couple of hours.

Encode 360 defiantly has a use, is very easy to use. Unfortunately converting to WMV does take a long time 3-4 hours on my PC.

I find DIVX encoding a lot faster, same files can be up to 3 times quicker. How about including DIVX support in encode 360 this tool would be perfect and very easy to use?

Encode360 is built entirely around Windows Media Encoder, which is specific to WMV. Adding support for DivX would be bloody complicated, and there's plenty of other tools that do this anyway.

Incidentally, site is currently down. Forgot to renew my domain registration. Ooops, hopefully be back tomorrow.

For some reason, can't seem to get 2 pass working on any of the options...

Which leaves me with cbr 1 pass or quality based vbr 1 pass.

Now for some reason quality based vbr downgrades my sound to 2 channel stereo.

So the only option I have left to me which actually gives me perfect results is to use cbr 1 pass and whack all of the bit rates up manually.

I Manually set video bit rate to 10000 kb/s and audio to 768.

This means I get a wmv the same quality as my mkv source and with 5.1 sound. Works for me.

Lucky you, my poor PC takes 2 to 3 times longer than that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Thanks for pointing that out, I was worried it had gone forever. Is there somewhere I can get the previous release because my encodes keep freezing at 75% on two different TS files with the new release?
