Streaming Xvid Content From Pc To 360
« on: November 24, 2007, 08:31:00 PM »

After doing some reading, it seems like the only way I can do this would be to switch from XP Pro SP2 to windows media centre, however, I don't really have any desire to do this. Would be able to dual boot both if I installed WMC to a different partition? I have two choices, the non Windows XP partition or on my external hard drive? is something like this possible?? thanks for any help guys.

That would be fine and dandy then, but could I install Windows to an external disk and still have it dual-boot?
and I have TVersity, but for whatever reason the media server doesn't work...

Really? Because i' have read, that M$ is doing this update on theirs "Media Center Extender", and it will only be available for extender using windows vista media center. AND, as u mentioned, it isn't even clear if it will be available on the 360

http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/06/microso...er-adds-divx-a/

But what is 100% clear,is  that M$ idea of "closed" Extenders where wrong, because there are other Extenders on the market which are able to play all common codes. So if they wanna growth in that business field they have to change something.

But as M$ sais the xbox 360 is a game concole......

Aslong as your motherboard supports usb booting your be fine just have it connected before you start then choose it as the hdd to install on or even try clean install from xp but i think it'll only let you update.

If i was you i would make a small partion for WMC and install only VME  all you need to stream/play avi/xvid

List of December's update features, curiously, the biggest addition is an increased compatibility of video codecs, is only mentioned briefly in the last sentence of this article. Too bad it doesn't say which codecs they will be supporting sad.gif

Okay, that told me what I can stream, but whenever I try to stream any .avi files over the wired network it has to buffer for like 3 minutes, then it plays maybe 15 seconds and buffers again, rinse and repeat. Can't actually watch anything like this = /
