Folks, I'm having trouble:

...
Turn ON the drive, wait for the status to change to D1 - CHECK
Turn OFF the drive for 2 seconds - CHECK
Turn ON the drive, reading should start - CHECK

But, the status alternates between 0xD1 and 0x51 for a long time.  Is this normal and if so, how long should it take.

I've tried three different computers now and the exact same results on each.

Update... Tried ths on 5 different computers and 1 SATA card, none of which had the VIA or NVIDIA chipset, and all with the same results as explained above. So, I just ordered the SYBA SY-VIA-150 SATA Controller Caard with a VIA 6421L Chipset from ebay.  Hope this works.  I'll post an update when I receive my card.

Is it possible to have iPrep create the USB stick so that it's a 'Superfloppy (USB-ZIP bootmode)'?

I tried creating a boot disk using iPrep, but my PC just reports it as a 'Non System Disk'. But if I create it using Flashboot and set it as 'Superfloppy (USB-ZIP bootmode)', then it'll boot just fine. I'd just rather have the simplicity of using iPrep to prepare the USB stick.

One other question... it looks like this version of iPrep will allow you to flash both BenQ and Samsung drives using the same USB stick. Is this true? If so, then I MUST get iPrep working... as it that'd be great!

Thanks

Of course.  All you need are mtkflash and dosflash on the USB stick and you can read/write both.

Thanks caster... I guess I might to ask if iPrep sets up the USB stick with everything needed to do BenQ & Samsung drives - or does a person have to manually dump DOSFlash and mtkflash onto the stick?

AFAIK (havent tested it, only from what Klutsh has told me) is that if you load both a benq and a samsung hacked firmware, it will create your boot device so taht it supports both.

In iPrep once you choose which firmware you want it places everything on there. You do have to select either BenQ or Samsung though so I don't think you could use the same USB for both. Just open iPrep and you'll see what I mean. It's actually very easy to use and flash.

Yup,... in iPrep I selected both the Samsung and BenQ firmwares - assuming that it'd dump everything needed to the USB stick to flash both drives. But unfortunately I can't get the stick to boot on my PC - unless there's a way to make it a 'Superfloppy' - which seems to be the only type that my PC will boot from startup. Anyone have a solution to this? If I created a USB stick using iPrep and then saved those files to a backup folder on the PC, and then create the USB 'Superfloppy' using Flashboot, would I be able to simply copy & paste the files that I made a backup from of the iPrep stick? I would assume that the Flashboot 'Superfloppy' requires certain files - a one of the same files that iPrep uses...

If your PC won't detect usb drives at startup you could try updating the system bios. Sometimes OEM's will add usb startup support to the bios. Also, look in the bios to see if it's enabled as a startup option.

Thanks DMAddict... my bios will boot the USB stick - but only if I format it using Flashboot and select the 'Superfloppy' option (which to be honest... I'm not exactly sure what it is... I just read somewhere to try that option if the bios wouldn't boot the USB stick).

I'd love to be able to get iPrep working... it looks pretty slick!

I'm having trouble flashing my ms28.  I can do up the USB stick no problem and boot from it, but when it tells me to power off the 360, and wait 15 seconds and power it on again so it can read the Firmware key, nothing ever happens..

Any suggestions?

Just used to flash my first BenQ worked Perfectly

Hi, I would also like to know whether to check that box or not?

I have a Benq VAD6038. The question I have is when and for what reason would I check the box to 'Patch MTKFlash' in iPrep?

Sorry wrong quote lol. I meant this one.

I can't get it to work, I make a boot disk with Samsung and Benq files. I also patched the MTKFalash. For Samsung its working fine, but for the benq I always only get Statu: 0x00

My drive is off when I start "dBen 7-digit serial 5-digit serial"
After this come the message
"Ensure that your Benq DVD is turned OFF"
"press any key to contiune..."
Then I press Enter
Then comes the message where I Press "Y" for Yes again and turned my drive ON after "Y"+Enter.
But then I only get Statu: 0x00

And what I have type in for "7-digit" and what for "5-digit"?

Sorry for thoe newbi questions. But for the Samsung is all working fine.

THX for help a NEWBI  biggrin.gif
