I just tried erasing two BenQ 64930C using this, got an error message "wrong firmware status"

they did read fine though.

also got a load of write errors when writing the firmware.

first drive bricked, second drive not bricked.

couldn't erase/write properly at all 1.4, going back to 1.3 let me erase and write both again as normal.

has anyone else had this problem? i'm using a via 6421 pci card.

Yup got this when upgrading to IX1.4, certainly made the old heart jump a little ohmy.gif  ohmy.gif

Managed to read fine with dosflash1.4 but erase/write threw errors galor, reverted back to trusty dosflash1.3 & everything worked as normal.

Does anyone have any further info on why 1.4 fails on erase/write ??

Same here, I went back to 1.3 after the "Wrong firmware status" erorrs. I had this issue with my Syba VIA 6421.

Via card fails on erase and write on 2 different PCs here also.  Couldn't get 32 bit mode to work at all, manual DOS worked only on read.

Thanks for the advise here, going to try 1.3 as recommended...

I don't know if this is the cause of your erase/write errors, but you should use the chip erase command from dosflash.typ for your corresponding flash chip type. The erase opcode used in V1.3 was sector erase (one sector = 64K). In V1.4 you can only use the chip erase opcode which is different. All opcodes could be looked up in dosflash.typ. Watch for the chip erase and try that. If the flash was erased correctly, I bet it will flash without a prob in DOS. The change was made cause the Winbond chip of the DROM has the first 64K divided into several sectors and a chip erase was the only thing that erased the chip correct.
