Schtrom V3.3, Vista, Nforce4 - Vista Freezing
« on: October 19, 2007, 01:01:00 AM »

I have Xtreme 5.2c installed on an MS25 drive that I have.  I downloaded the activate.iso and burned it with Nero 7 onto a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc like the instructions implied. I boot up the 360 with the activate.iso disc in the drive. After 30 seconds, I eject it.  I then turn on my PC, where Windows sees the Xbox 360 drive. BTW, this drive is hooked up to an Nforce4 chipset if that matters.

After Windows Vista loads up, I throw in a game disc to back it up to my hard drive.  Vista immediately freezes up.

What am I doing wrong?? Is there a way to verify that my MS25 drive is actually in 800 mode??

Also, I'd like to mention that when I try to boot up the Xbox 360 while connected to my Rosewill RC-212 card which has the Via VT6421A chipset on it after I've booted the 360 using activate.iso, the bios on the card hangs - and eventually has me press <G> to continue. At this point, windows doesn't even see the drive. However if I boot up with the drive plugged into the Nforce4 chipset, I do see the thing - but when I insert a disc, it just locks up.

And before anybody asks, I'm not running any DVD dameon tools and UAC is turned off and yes, I'm the administrator of the machine.

Yes, I tried both the Nvidia and Via SATA ports - both do the exactly the same thing once in Vista now. I updated drivers on both, and what happens is that Windows Vista completely freezes up when a backup is inserted.  I'm damn near ready to try installing XP on this computer at this point, it's driving me nuts.
