Maximus 360 FW Toolbox v4.5 - Better BenQ Support
Posted by XanTium | October 8 13:53 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Maximus released 360 Firmware Toolbox(info) v4.5 - a graphical tool to handle several common dvd-drive firmware tasks.
From Readme/NFO:
Quote

MAIN NOTE:
THIS TOOL DOES NOT MAKE YOUR VAD6038 DRIVES RUN BACKUPS ON ANY WAY, THERE IS NO RELEASED IXTREME NOR XTREME FIRMWARES FOR VAD6038.
THIS TOOL NEITHER ALLOW DIRECT READING/FLASHING OF THE VAD6038 FIRMWARE YOU STILL NEED DUMP THE FIRMWARE WITH DOSFLASH Tools or with external programmer.

WHATS NEW ON V4.50:
- FIXED: Properly support Handling of VAD6038 Firmwares (see notes).
- FIXED: Previously Hitachi spoofed drives were not visible on toolbox anymore now you can see it and unspoof it or re-spoof them
- FIXED: Several other bugs

Release Notes:
The VAD6038 firmwares are tricky, the KEY could be placed on too many places, and the code locations could vary a lot between same ROM drives. (Like on Hitachi 78/79 drives but on VAD6038 there are a lot o of posibilities)
This Toolbox support the 2 retail VAD6038 firmware versions known till now. (62430C and 64930C). You can now:
- Read / Extract Keys
- Spoof Samsung/Hitachi drive as Benq
- Spoof Benq drive as Hitachi/Samsung

Official Site: n/a (by Maximus)
Download: n/a (might be illegal under DMCA/EUCD)

I am posting some notes that are on the README and where not posted on the x-s main page, I think this notes will help to understand what does and what not does this version:

Special thanks to Modfreaks who send me a lot of Retail VAD6038 Dumps to test.

If you also want to contribute to make better toolbox send any new firmware to:
[email protected] make sure is a 360 drive's firmware that is not currently
supported by toolbox (Unsupported BRAND, Unsupported ROM VERSION, etc).

Regards

Two questions..

I have my Hitachi 0078fk 360 flashed with the Maximus Xtreme v1.6 Firmware for Hitachi-LG v0078 from way back last December, does this mean that (after restoring my original firmware) I can flash it again with the latest Commodore4Eva iXtreme Hitachi-LG v1.2 rev2 firmware using this new Firmware Toolbox?

I'm assuming all this VAD6038 talk is about the BenQ drive only?

TIA

Hope some day they will,i was certainly one who donated to the v4.0 toolbox and i have flashed some 78s with it.
the 79 keypass may not be ideal but its a workaround at present.spare a thought for the new wii d2c modders they are going to have around 30 wires to fix to the board and chip.
so it is a big thanks to maximus and the team for their continued support with the new v4.5

Would be nice if USB SATA adapters were supported for 78/79 drives (seen some drives that don't want to behave on VIA no matter how much you try, USB adapter picks them up but they can't then be flashed) but good work anyway, cheers! biggrin.gif

Do we still need to cut the traces in order to read/write to the benq drives?

Thanks.

As it can't actually read/write BenQ drives, and DOSflash hasn't been updated, the answer's yes.
