Ugh... And here starts the line of "i" applications.  Who made this sound like Apple made the firmware...

Try thinking more like "I Prepare", as thats what it does.
In DOS, the .bat are the .same
iDump & iFlash. tells you what they do.

You've obviously never used Xtreme Boot Maker.

A )  Why use it?

It creates your boot device with ease and everything is set up to read, copy key and version (if needed and selected), and flash.  It makes it easier for people who are new to the flashing scene to get setup and flash their drive.

Bottom line, dont use it if you dont want to or are more comfortable with other methods.

B )  What happens when you use this on a ms28 drive?

What do  you mean?  The ixtreme fw is a ms28 bin.  Nothing happens.  You use your original firmware (or previously hacked, dumped from the drive) and samtool copies your key from your original firmware to your ixtreme firmware.  Its as simple as that.

C )  What happened to mtkflash?

Mtkflash is still used, along with samtool in does.  All this does is create friendly batch files that include the proper switchs, filenames, etc... for flashing your drive.  Download the package, make a boot device, and see what you end up with.  Look at what the batch files do....

For those with definition issues on the v1.0 pack, redownload it.  It was repacked, changing one byte in the firmware from 'FF' to '0D' to allow for correct key placement when using original hitachi firmwares to create your ixtreme firmware.  A structure check was added in SamTool v0.7 to prevent this from happening.

Caster.

Hello Caster- I currently use your samtool and mtkflash.  I'm assuming your new version v0.7 works with iXtreme.  Where can I download it?  360mods only has the 0.5 version, which is where posts here that I've read have pointed in the past.  I prefer entering the command line commands myself, and not relying on batch files.

Just copy it direct from the iPrep Resource Directory

I would like to know how to update from the 42_update fw that i have on my 360 to the new safe live fw.
I have a Sumsung drive like i said flashed with 42_update i know its an old one.

And also i never been on live with this 360 and my guess will be once i update to new fw my backed up games will not work since the new fw will only boot stealth game disc so eventually i will have to backup my 5 games again.
Is that all correct? or am i missing somethhing??

Oh also this goes to the makers of XBM and Iprep. Maybe you guys can intergrate a easier way to update from older FW version to new FW version on you tools.
Just an input to make it easier for noobs like me smile.gif

Keep up the good work.

Thank you

Can anyone please help with my post. Thanks

Have a look for a file called "Textbook.pdf" (AKA: Textbook’s Xbox 360 Firmware Tutorial) that will teach you it all.

As for updates, it's just a case of running through the same process again, but this time using the dump of the hacked firmware inplace of the original.

For that you will have to try each one.

I had the same problem. I redownloaded the iXtreme from the usual place and it worked fine. It's very confusing that they didn't rename the second revision to rev.2 or something along those lines.

I came accross another problem whilst using the program though. I have 2 VIA SATA contollers. One onboard VT8237A and one 6421 card.

In step 2 when I click list "SCSI Based Conrollers" it comes up with the error message :
"Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click COntinue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or becuase it has no enabled devices associated with it. (Exception from HRESULT:0*80070422)"

Once I click continue my VIA VT 6421 RAID Controller shows up in the 'window'.

If I click "List IDE Based Controllers" a list of IDE channels, VIA Bus Master IDE Controller - 0571 and VIA Serial ATA Controller  - 0591 show's up in the 'window'. If I select the VIA Serial ATA controller it comes up with the same error message as mentioned earlier.

So I have 2 questions:
1) Are these error messages normal and I just click continue? As I'm assuming they are showing because nothing is plugged into the SATA ports.
2) The "Serial ATA Controller - 0591" is my 8237 on board card?

Can anyone help me out? Are these error messages normal? Can I just click continue?

Anyway got an idea if this is going to work with my Asus A8N SLI Premium board, read a lot of bad stories about flashing the 360 and the Nforce 4 Sata controllers.....

Not sure if my drive is 25 or 28, will open up my baby later today (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

That's telling you that a problem exists somewhere on your computer relating to your SCSI based hardware.

Try installing drivers for all your IDE and SATA controllers.

Is the XBM 0.5.4 not going to get a re-release any more then?sad.gif
Well despite this looking swish, I think I'm going to use 5.4 still for the extra features (I use them often) and I don't intend using the advanced restore anyway.

Any chance you could help me with the def file though? I've got
   <firmware   md5="13447F258A51E4445786B8FAAA8F93FA">
      <name>iXtreme 1.2</name>
      <path>fw</path>
      <opti>2</opti>
      <lead>12</lead>
   </firmware>

opti i assumed was which file within fw to select? and as the debug one or whatever is first I put 2.
lead I had no idea about, but 5.0 has 50, 5.1 51, 5.2 52, 5.3 53, 1.0 10, so I went with 12 tongue.gif
It loads up fine but I'd rather check Its not using the debug or something.
And would it be fine to use the new SAMTOOL with it or is that a no go?
Thanks a lot for the work.

Hi guys...just a question...

I've an MS25 drive...and yesterday I used XBM 0.5.3. RC3 to make backup fw and flash my new hacked fw 1.0.
Now...I want try to flash with iPrep 1.01.
My backup files (ORIG.BIN and XTREMEFW.BIN) are in XBM backups folder.

I think to do:

I'll copy XBM backup folder with (ONLY orig.bin) undo iPrep directory and I'll launch iFlash.bat command with my serial.

for example...

if my serial is 0000000-11111 ...
my backup folder undo XBM is z:\backups\000000\11111\
I'll prepare my new USB boot with iPrep with iXtreme 1.2
I'll create this directory h:\backups\000000\11111\
I'll copy only ORIG.BIN undo this directory and I'll launch:

      iFlash.bat 0000000 11111

...right ??

This is the reason 0.5.4 dont work with iXtreme correctly, it was made with a hard coded file name set, now with iXtreme, that naming system has gone.

The opti tag is actually for the A, B, C or D radio buttons in the GUI. and only has the optin of 2 or 4, iXtreme needs an option of 1

What extra features?, iXtreme will have all of 0.5.4's functions eventually.

No.

You need to run iDump as that is the batch file that as well as dumping the firmware, also creates your hacked one.
