Convert/transcode Options - Please Advice If You Can.
« on: January 03, 2007, 06:09:00 AM »

I am using Vista Ultimate RTM with my 360 as an extender.
I have attempted to use Transcode 360 for movie playback, but the sync issues they are still attempting to iron out make it useless for me at this time.  So without the ability to integrate with the MyMovies application I currently have no use for Transcode 360.
Encode360 simply will not run on my Vista install, it simply crashes on startup everytime and no one seems to have solved this little issue either.
Granted I am using a very new OS, so I am not blaming the software developers.

At this point I am just want to convert a bunch of music videos I have collected over the years to play on the 360.  It seems the only file formats what are acceptable are WMV and Mpeg2.

Can someone recommend a GOOD software package that will convert various file formats to a HIGH quality WMV or MPEG2?  I have used imToo software conversions packages and the quality of the conversion is horrible!

I am willing to simply transcode all the video and store them for the 360 extender vs. on the fly.

Thanks in advance.

assuming vista still has windows movie maker!

HERES MY GUIDE FOR EASY CONVERSIONS!

For all those who want to watch videos on their xbox 360 but can't figure out how, this guide is for you!

It's simple! No software to download, No other fees, no hassle!
------------------------------------------------
requirements

-windows xp at least
------------------------------------------------

Step 1
Go to start>all programs>accessories>windows movie maker(or where-ever it is in your pc)

step 2
Open the program

Step 3
Click file>Import

Step 4
Find your file and import it

Step 5
Highlight all the clips it creates and drag them into the timeline at the bottom

step 6
When it's done adding the clips, Go to File>save movie as

Step 7
put it as high quality, name it and click ok

Step 8
choose where you want it to be saved(i would choose desktop to avoid hassle)

Step 9
Let it save, may take about an hour depending on your computer

Step 10
Drag it into your portable device, hook it up to your 360, And BAM IT SHOULD WORK!

wouldnt that just be one, big long video??

and for transcode, just goto runtime360.com, download the vista version, and you should be fine. they also just released a VLC plugin so it trancodes with VLC instead of MENCODER. maybe that will fix youre problem

Here's a kick-ass freeware program that I use for video & audio (convert's all sorts of formats to MP3 & back):
