Xbc 2.3 - Memorex Dlrwl1 - Initialization Error
« on: November 29, 2006, 06:51:00 PM »

Hello all... I did a scan of the forums and did not find any matches for this topic.

I am attempting to use the XBox Backup Creator Version 2.3 - Build 0185 to burn an image on to my Memorex DVD+R DL media.  My burner is a Memorex DVD +/- DLRWL1 F16 BWSE.  Unfortunately, the XBC software seems to get stuck while attempting to initialize the writer.   It takes a bit but the error states in a pop-up:

Action:  Get layer 0 capacity
DeviceIOControlError: 0x0000045D
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

The back-up itself seems to work just fine using the Samsung SH-D162C drive.  It produced no errors and gave me two output files a .dvd and a .iso.   Not sure if it matters but I attempted to back-up an XBox 1 DVD - Fable.   I was able to run IMG BURN with these output files and it was able to write the DVD backup.  I selected the .dvd file in IMG BURN (so that the layer break info was retrieved).   The burn completed without error in IMG Burn... but the backup did not work on my modified XBox 360.   (For the record, the original works fine when placed in the Xbox 360).  I have the Toshiba-Samsung drive on my XBox 360.

So... where I am requesting advice is with the XBC program.  Are there any known incompatibilities with writing to the Memorex DVD DLRWL1 F16?  I believe the BWSE part refers to the firmware revision number.

   OR

Is there some other setting in IMG BURN 2.1 that I should have selected to have the image burn properly?  I wrote a 2.4x speed.

The only other thing I can think of is I have my DLRWL1 as the master drive and the SH-D162C as the slave drive on the same E-IDE cable.

You should use a Pioneer 111D burner.  I've been told that it's the only one that really works with the backup creator.  I have a friend that burns 360 backups all the time.  He is the one that I got the info from.

LiteON work 100% with XBC, infact ALL dvd writers do, its the fact that your drive needs to be able to Bitset to dvd rom thats the issue.

liteON have a util that does this, Pioneer does it as standard.

I'm sure your intentions are honourable but really, how does this help the guy?

@palmerz  You might try finding an updated oem firmware for the memorex.  The drive is probably made by someone else.  I don't think Memorex actually makes their own (just branded probably).  You might also try Schrom360xtract instead of xbox backup creator.

Edit: Do you know if your dvd writer supports bitsetting or if it auto sets dvd+r dl to dvd-rom booktype?
