Help, Xbox Backup Creator 2.3 Wierd Error, Worked Fine Before
« on: November 17, 2006, 12:37:00 PM »

I've been using the excellent XBC 2.3 with no problems on a few backups, (thank you REDLINE99;) )up until today.

I can rip the game perfectly as before with no problems but when i try to write the image i get a power on, Bus reset error and the disk is ejected, untouched and still writable.

I am using Verbatim 2.4x and had no problems writing before.

I have tried putting the DL disk in with XBC running and also before starting XBC and both produce the same error and cannot write the image to disk.

I tried IMGBurn to write the image produced by XBC and this has worked, can anyone help me with this, please?

The log details are below,

I got something similar (Continuing on after 6/29/00 Bus Reset Error
) although it didnt stop the burn and pop the disc out. I didnt have debug enabled.

The writer is the only device on the bus.

I almost have the identical setup as neonmod and I do get the exact same error, along with the disc ejecting.  What did you guys put in debug mode and how did you do it?

Thanks,

I think it is a timing issue or a time-out issue.  This has always been a pain in the butt!  I'll try to increase the time-out value when setting the layerbreak.

I looked at the source and it uses a 10 sec timeout.  I'll bump it up some.

I get the same error.  Log file is below.  This is strange because I copied about five games and everything worked flawlessly.  Games played on the xbox360.  I have a Panasonic-Matsushita-SW-9585 writer.  The media is Memorex (Ritek).  Dead Rising read okay, but failed upon trying to write.  I tried one of the games that had written okay before and now it, too, failed with the following error message.  I then changed to a new Memorex dvd and tried about five times, finally getting a power calibration message.  Changed to a third blank Memorex and same error message below.  Reloaded firmware.  Same.  Took second dvd drive off ide cable.  Same.  Changed IDE cable to IDE 2 on my ASUS 8N.  Same.Unchecked the boxes for Stealth Check, OPC, Reserve Track.  Same.  Tried using CloneCD and Imgburn for writing.  Same message more or less .... stuck on a Layer 2 capacity related message or, at times, message relating to power calibration failed (I read somewhere that there's supposed to be about 999 of these available before filling the space on the dvd).  So it's not your program in this case.  But I would like to try the "DEBUG mode" thing above, but it is not available on 2.3. It is hard to believe that the writer just failed like that.  And I will buy a new one tomorrow and report back, so no rush on figuring out the problem.  But I figured I'd register on this site and report it to you since you went to the trouble of writing it for everyone.  Thanks.

You are correct.  The DVD's were borderline.  I purchased another drive, the exact same drive SW-9585, because it was only $30 at Fry's.  I knew the drive worked perfectly for the first 5 disks, so  if it was a drive failure, the same Memorex (Ritek) disks would work.  Got home, same error with the new drive.  So I opened my more expensive pack of GQ (Great Quality) Disks, the Fry's Generic ones.  These are RICOHJPN disks, which I thought were Riteks.  Guess not, because the image that wasn't buring with the Memorexs burned fine the first time out.  So, even though all of these thread stress the importance of the right brand of disks, I put myself through all of that to save a few bucks on the DVD +R DL's.

One interesting observation.  Of the 5 disks that initially burned correctly, the first was a RICOJPN.  When I bought the 50 pack of Memorex on a spindle, I also bought a three pack in jewel cases.  Those disks appear identical and identify themselves as identical.  Those burned fine.  Then the first disk of the spindle pack of 50 burned fine.  The next five in the spindle had a problem.  Is it possible that Memorex disks on a spindle are somehow of lower quality, or is this all a coincidence?

Anyway, there you have it.  Will buy Verbatims once I burn through 45 more Memorex and 14 more GQ's.

Thank you all.
