Wmp Plugin To Transcode?
« on: November 08, 2006, 03:00:00 AM »

(1st post, go easy on me!)

I have a very similar sort of idea. I've been playing with Windows Media Encoder. It streams any format to WMV on the fly if you run a web server. I've tested this by streaming mpeg files with it over my home lan to another PC. Works a treat.

So, if we can play with this so it streams to a file rather than a server port, technically we'd be able to select the file from the 360 and view what's streaming on our "media server".

Essentially, the WMV file would actually be a shortcut to the server address. The only pain being that you'd have to start the movie on the PC then quickly run to the 360 and connect before you miss the beginning!

But, until then I'm using WinAVI to slowly convert all my files. Tedious, but it's working.

Wmp Plugin To Transcode?

hmmm...did not kno that. what i was thinking more along the lines of would be using vlc as an external one. i just read the tutorial on the front page, and since it's just a batch file would could probably execute it from within a plugin. thus..whenever u pick a file it re-routes it the vlc transcoding program (well if this is indeed transcoding, if not the windows media one should do fine), then wmp takes the output and streams that. so hopefully you wont even have to touch your pc. it is all about ease of use after all.

ne programming experience with stuff like this out there?
