Alternates To The Lpc
« on: February 03, 2005, 04:22:00 PM »

A customer tried to install their own chip, with a pinheader.  When the chip didn't work, they somehow ripped out the header, and took several of the LPC's metal rings with them.  Needless to say, there's no point in even trying to connect another chip to the LPC.

This is a 1.0... anyone provide a schematic of alternate points to the LPC?  I appreciate it.

Anyone ever actually done an install using the alternate points?

I ask, because the H spot points at nothing... any ideas?

I have never rebuilt the LPC in that fashion, but judging by the picture, I would say that "H" is supposed to be connected to the plane that it is pointing to.  "H" is actually pin 6 which, according to the pinout I have, should be +5.0VDC, so double check to make sure that plane is actually connected to +5.0VDC.  Also, The pinout I have shows that pin 2 (the one below "G") should be connected to GND, so you may want to double check that as well.  Good luck!

One thing to keep in mind when rebuilding that lpc is that several of the rivets are used as vias, so you will need to jumper those points on either side of the board.

Also, a number of the rivets have more than one trace that connects to them.

I think if I were doing this repair, I would still stick a pinheder back into the holes.

First I would atatch short leads to the traces on the top of the board and pass them through the holes. then I would slip in the pin header, solder the wire you passed through, then jumper the botom traces to the apropriate places.

Have fun with the repair.

How about posting the pics of the damage, we love to see carnage!!

This is the best pic I could take... it shows that many of the LPC points appear to be 'metal-free'.

If I understand the above clearly celt, I should rebuild the LPC from the topside... "attach short leads to the traces on the top of the board and pass them through the holes". But then you suggest "jumper the botom traces to the apropriate places".  Seems like double the work.  Did I get it wrong?

Without realizing it I posted a very similiar topic about the same time as this one. Well My question still stands. Is there another LPC point for LAD 2 for a v1.6a?

I have searched nb's site... can't find an example of a rebuilt LPC.

NB, some awesome repairs there, but I was hoping for a similarly destroyed LPC.  Any other pointers for me?
