Playing .ts Files In Vista Mce
« on: June 29, 2006, 07:00:00 AM »

I've got Vista MCE working, but the .TS files still wont play after installing HDTV Pump.  I think the problem is that they are not recognized in Windows Media Player 11.  So I can't add them to the library to give them the DRM ok that's built in.  MCE will see the files but then give the Video Error as if they were DIVX or something.  Has anyone had success with .TS and Vista MCE?

try just renaming the file from .ts to .mpg

this works in xp to get .ts files playing so it may work for you also. All you loose by this is the multiple stream support that some .ts files have. (most dont)

Well WMP wouldn't play it when I changed it to mpg.  I tried it in Vista MCE and it gave the Video Error.  I haven't tried adding it to the library though.

On another note, if I play the .TS file first in WMP then the 360 will crash when I access the same file instead of giving me an error.

Try using the Nvidia Purevideo decoder instead of HDTVPump.  TS files play on my Vista machine after installing it so I would assume that they'd stream to the 360 ok too.

Good idea... I just installed that last night though.  Although I didn't remove the hdtv pump plugin.  That might do the trick, but I still think its the lack of adding the files to the library that keeps them from playing.  I know for a fact that MCE is using WMP11 to play its files.  Everytime I start it up the 360 will say installing Urge services just for a second.  I think it keeps doing that becuase I haven't set up an account.  I'll try uninstalling pump and setting an account in Urge and see what happens.

MPEG support through Extender is broken in Vista at the momment.  You are limited to WMV streaming.  It is  expected to be working on the final release of Vista.

If you can't stream mpeg's to the 360 in Vista then how come if I use Vedeora Xbox360 Converter to convert my videos to mpeg's, they stream just fine?

I thought the Videora converter converted them to wmv's in which case they will stream fine ?
