Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta 3.1 -- Posted by XanTium on April 22 10:53 EST
We already reported about the W.I.P. of Transcode360 Beta 3.1 earlier this week. Runtime has now released this new build:

Quote

As discussed in my previous post, you can now download the interim Transcode 360(info) Beta 3.1 release.

It contains quite a few fixes and to sweeten the update I've thrown in DVD ISO streaming (experimental). Your ISO images should ideally be DeCSS'd, and contain just the main title with the appropriate audio track.

Tip: If you really want to maximise your performance, you can get a pre-compiled build of mencoder optimised for your processor over here. The one we redistribute with T360 is generic for logistical reasons. However, if you do raise a support issue please make sure that you let us know that you're using a non-standard build.

This is great news! Just yesterday I found out that the 360 can't stream ripped dvd's from MCE.
Now, BAMM!! I will test it out and share my experience.

Thanks again guys!

Strange thing I noticed accidentally, If you rip a dvd to just the main movie and ac3 soundtrack then build the video_ts folder into an iso file the xbox 360 wil play it with full ac3 without transcoding.

It will also also play if it is transcoded but you loose the 5.1 audio and get surround instead

What are you using to create the ISO from the vide_ts folder?

I also noticed the loss of 5.1. Is there anyway to preserve this in transcode 360?

Andeye:

You could have single handedly taken down MSs limits on streaming dvd's. I commend you good sir! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
Now to test it! Thanks bud!

hmmm........

I was unable to get it working from the rar-iso process. Could you detail exactly how you got it to work?

Just to test the audio difference between using Transcode to play the ripped iso, and playing the original dvd in the xbox, I listened to both versions of Star Wars Episode III. I can not tell you how HUGE of a difference there is between what transcode put out (probably stereo) and what the 360 dvd player did. I was blown away at how amazing it sounded compared the transcode.

So I suppose if we could get the 5.1 working through transcode, I would be set!

 Hi
All that I did was use dvd 2 one to rip the main video stream and selected the ac3 soundtrack, Then ripped the dvd

This gave me the ifo and vob files in the folder dvd 2 one created

Then I renamed that folder to video_ts and rared the folder setting the compression to store this gave me video_ts.rar which I renamed to video.iso....or whatever you want.

I did notice that the 360 seems funny about some of the files not sure if its to do with the AC3 stream or the video size, But some videos play Jerky while others are perfect??????

Keep an eye on the next Beta... I just eard that something new is coming our way.  Full streaming of original mpeg2 video and AC3 audio from .iso or video_ts folders.  The drawback?  ff/rw won't work on those files.

I just ripped a DVD using Clone DVD 2 and now i can play the ISO directly, with AC3 5.1 sound from My Xbox360.  The only problem i found was that the frame rate is way too low. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)  Can't wait until the next version (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
