Not that I'm overly paranoid, but they could do MUCH more than just "play" as you. I guess you forget that your Credit Card info is on there also. They could buy EVERY DLC available and charge it all up on your card. They could do a lot of things. Like I said, I wouldn't worry about it, but you're making it seem like they couldn't do nothing to you.

nice little app, thanks
now can you make a plugin for MCE 2005
sure would be nice while i'm watching tv
to see a popup telling me i have a friend online
 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Why don't you use your xbox360 to watch TV from your MCE2005 machine?  Does live get disabled when you use the media extender function of the 360?
Thanks,
Sean

Or they could change your password or get you a bad rep or banned from live.

I dont see why they would post it if they are unsure of it's safty, why take the risk XBOX-scene?

If you're unsure about it, use http://www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/ to see what it's really doing.

Every piece of software you run, made by anyone in the scene has an element of risk. We provide the info as we get it. It's up to the end user to evaluate the info and determine for themselves if it's worth the risk.

Personally.. I think people are retarded to use this app, or xblist, as you are handing over your PASSPORT info to strangers.

Depending on how peple have set up their accounts, their PASSPORT might be thier sole email account, access to xbox.com, ms sites, bungie, etc.

Both XBLISt and this one are cool apps, but, are people that lazy, that they can't just long into xbox.com and look up their friends list when they feel like viewing the list?

For me.. it's not worth the risk.

btw.. while fiddler might seem like a cool tool (it is.. ).. some malicious software hides it's activities, or worse, unloads fiddler.

There's definitely more to it then just having someone log in as you on xboxlive. This will give people access to your passport, which is linked to hotmail, msn, etc etc. The program looks reasonably trustable, but it's definitely not worth the risk imo. If you created a new passport for your xbox live account and used a pre-paid card then I don't see any risks here.

correct me if im wrong..

but, for someone to gain access to your gamertag, are they not going to need something more then just your passport information. While, yes this is still important information, especially if it's your one email you use for everything..it doesn't mean they'd be able to log into your gamertag via their xbox360.. as you would need all the location information as well as the last 4 credit card digits.

Personally, would I use this? No, it's just not that important to see who's on at all times. Most of the people I play with msg eachother when everyone decides to get on. For others, I can see how it could be handy.

Neat little program I guess, it just doesn't appeal to me. As well with the risk asociated with it [which may be very little] I just don't see the use of it.

By logging in this program you're just actually making yourself the easiest target. That's my opinion

Guess I'm not as paranoid as everyone else.  I installed this program and it connected no probelm.  Also it only uses 28k of resources... unlike stated earlier.

I'm not concerned with the live account.

These programs, if malicious.. could hand people your passport info. (name/pass)

For some.. that's critical info.

I'm not suggesting EITHER program is malicious of trojanized. I simply don't jump at an opportunity to give unknown apps/devs my passport info. Especially for so little a payoff.

If the sources of the programs was a more respected or trustworthy source, I'd probably be jumping for joy.

Also.. a little bit of paranoia and caution are good. People with neither, these days are the victims of all manner of abuse, including systems for of spyware, malware, trojans, backdoors, phishers, virii, etc.

In the end.. it's a leap of faith. The differnece for some people, is that just cause it's posted on a news page, doesn't mean you automatically jump head first.

First, research, caution, and precaution.

There really isn't any points for being first. But people will point and laugh if people get nailed by insideous programs.
