Heres a way you can see whats on your PC screen with your xbox 360's  MCE.

Firstly, go to notepa and copy the following code into it:
CODE

url="http://www.xbox-scene.com"
name="xbox-Scene"
bgcolor="RGB(90,60,105)"
>

save the file to
CODE

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Media Center\Media Center Programs\xbox-scene.mcl

After a purple screen you should see a message NOT DESIFNED FOR MEDIA CENTER

Tick dont as me this again and then click on View Now

Next, head to realvnc.com and install the free version of RealVNC

when asked to configure a password - choose No Authentication.  On doing this make sure you use a firewall on your netword that only lets your xbox to connect, or click prompt loal user to accept connection on the configuration screen, ticking this option will mean youhave to run up to your pc to accept every time you connect on the xbox.  It is important you have something to stop others connectiong and controlling your computer.

If you do enable a password you get asked for the password on the 360 and you are unable to type in  a password, pressing Y to bring up the keyboard and entering the password doesnt enter it on the dialogue.

on the pc you installed vnc on, go to start, run, type cmd, then ipconfig.

note your IP ADDRESS, then create another mcl file in notepad as before:

CODE

url="0.0.0.0:5800"
name="VNC"
bgcolor="RGB(90,60,105)"
>

WHERE YOU SEE URL="0.0.0.0:5800" Change it ti the ip address you got earlier, so for example my ip is 192.168.1.10 so I would use
url="192.168.1.10:5800"

Save the file,
CODE

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Media Center\Media Center Programs\vnc.mcl

go to media center on xbox 360, more programs, and vnc

youll recieve Warning Security, Justpress A on the controller

Press A again once you recieve the connect to dialogue.

You should see the screen of your pc if it worked successfully

Try this:

Go to Start - Programs - RealVNC - VNC Server 4 (Service-Mode) - Configure VNC Server

In the dialogue check there is a tick on Serve Java viewer via HTTP on port and in the text box enter 5800

Accept Connections from port 5900

serve on java 5800

Also, to diagnose why it may not work for you try runniing it through more programs on the MCE pc, and if that doesnt work try changing the IP in the mcl file to 127.0.0.1:5800 - and load it on your pc if it then works you know thers something wrong with connecting to the ip, also if it works try keeping it as 127.0.0.1 in mcl file then loading on xbox 360 not sure if that would work or not though i assume it would

if no matter what you try it doesnt work try Start, All Programs, RealVNC, VNC Server 4 (Service-Mode), Start VNC service as it may not even be loaded up (even tho it should)

I use RealVNC software a lot to connect from other computers to my pc and i just tried this mcl web browser way via 360 MCE Extender when I saw this thread and worked first go.

Well, I get the same problem as other posters on this thread - purple screen of death that locks up the xbox.

I know that xbox 360 only requires 4 ports to operate -

Port Name Protocol Scope
1900 UPnP Framework UDP My network (subnet) only
3390 Remote Media Center Experience TCP Any computer (including those on the Internet)
3776 Media Center Extender Service UDP Any computer (including those on the Internet)
5555 Media Streaming TCP My network (subnet) only
7777 Network Validation UDP My network (subnet) only

what if one of these ports is used, rather than the defaults from realVNC?

Anyone been able ot get this working since May?

Paul

Solved this one. The code in the .mxcl file that starts RealVNC should be:

CODE

url="http://0.0.0.0:5800"
name="VNC"
bgcolor="RGB(90,60,105)"
>

The OP left out the http. VNC works fine now from the 360 - pity you can't plug in a keyboard or mouse.

regards,
Paul

I tried this, got connected, but all I see is a white screen that says VNC in the upper right corner.  What next?
