Windows Media Connect - A Fix
« on: March 14, 2006, 05:19:00 AM »

I just got my first 360 yesterday, and like many people had problems trying to share media using WMC.
I have resolved the issue on my setup and suspect that the cause of my problems will be common to many.

Root Cause: One or more of the services that the WMC service is dependent on to start are not started.
- HTTP SSL
- Universal Plug & Play Device Host
- SSDP Discovery Service

Diagnosis: (How do I know if I have this problem?)
From Windows XP > Start > Run > type "services.msc", click OK. A "Services (Local) " window will open.
Locate and right-click the entry for "Windows Media Connect Service", select "Properties".
Select the "Dependencies" tab, you can see the list of services that WMC is dependent on.
Now, for each listed service go back to the main list and ensure they are a)enabled and b)started.

Resolution:
If any of the services are disabled or not started you will need to resolve this, via the properties options of each.
When you have completed enabling and starting all services you should then start the WMC service and re-test from your Xbox360 dash.
