Mounting Iso Images
« on: March 06, 2006, 10:20:00 AM »

I'm getting my 360 in 2 weeks, so now I'm getting into finding out what I need to do to get streaming media sorted out.

I backup all my DVDs onto my PC which is going to act as a media server to the 360.  The problem is, I make 1:1 DVD ISO images so there is no quality loss.  I don't have the space on my HD to convert them all to WMV to make them streamable as normal video files.  I use Daemon Tools on my PC to mount these images to a virtual DVD drive, so I assume that if I came up to my PC and did that each time I wanted to watch a film downstairs, I would be able to do it with the "Play DVD" function in MCE.  But, my PC is upstairs, and the TV downstairs.  I don't want to have to do that.  I was wondering if there is a way to interface with Daemon Tools as an MCE app so I can select the film to mount directly with the 360?

Is this currently possible, or am I going to have to wait until I get it, then figure it out myself?

i laughed when i read this.. but dont take offense to it.

is your pc Windows Media center 2005 ?  if not then you are s.o.l. you cant interface 1 little bit with windows xp.. all you can do is view shared music and movies.
but no.. i highly doubt it will function properly i really really do.

but what do i know i dont have MCE 2005.
but you also gotta figure that MS aint stupid they are well aware of what Daemon tools is and it wouldnt suprise me one little bit the program is blacklisted.

Well, I've pretty much got a range of OSes I can choose to use.  I've read about adding more programs to MCE's "More Programs" section, such as a MAME emulator.  I figured that perhaps there would be a way to do this.  I don't even think I have MCE setup correctly ATM, since I've never tried to get it to connect to anything.

Oh well, I'll keep looking into it.

I doubt DaemonTools is blacklisted, Nero ImageDrive does the same thing. Consider the My Movies plugin for MCE, it expects DaemonTools to be installed to a specific location to automount ISO images of DVDs.

And XP can't share movies, only music and pictures.

Not a problem.  That was one of the first things I found out, so I picked up a copy of XP MCE 2005 to do the job.

If you have any further information on adding programs and the like, please let me know.

i dont have any windows media movies so i havent tried but it wont share movies bah that sucks..

but in theory i would see where daemon tools could work but dont get your hopes up.

Nero Drive image is a legite Virtual Drive that cant be used the way D-tools is.  dtools is a hacker tool like it or not thats what it was founded on and will always be used for so if it does work  hurray for the 360 scene.

Daemon tools is for Hacking?

Just becuase something is free and can be used for illicit activity does not make its conception and total existance based on the behavior of some of its users.

CDR-WIN one of the best cd burning softwares of its time was only for bootleging CDs.   But nero burning rom is legit, why because its retail?

If DaemonTools was a "hacker tool" as you suppose you would also have to classify it as warez, which if it were, it would not be openly and freely available as it is.

"Warez" means it is Bootlegg.

Warez has nothing to do with hacking accept that many Warez apps have had the copy protection / security key disabled, cracked or circumvented.

The word "Warez" is derived from "Software"
