wxHdd v1.2 and wxPirs v1.1-- Posted by XanTium on February 18 23:31 EST
Gael360 released an update of wxHdd(info) (a tool to read the Xbox 360 HDD on PC) and wxPirs (to tool to open Generic Xbox 360 Container files).

What's new/fixed on wxHdd since v1.0 (translated from french):
* Experimental support for memory cards (v1.0.1)
* Fixed some bugs (v1.0.1)
* Handling fragmentation of disc (v1.2)
* Opening of several partitions (v1.2)
* Extracting directories (v1.2)
* Instant/Direct opening of files (v1.2)
* Note: wxHdd does not have a feature to 'add files' (write on HD/Image) yet.

Gael360 also released a new tool called wxPirs v1.1:

Quote

This tool will allow you to open files of the following types: PIRS, LIVE or CON, which are "generic container files" on the Xbox360.
More info about this format is available on free60.org.

These 3 formats are identical, the only difference are the first 4 characters of the file (PIRS/LIVE/CON), which is where their names come from, and what they are used for:
* PIRS: used to store themes or gamertags for example
* LIVE: used to store content downloaded from Xbox LIVE
* CON: these are a bit special, they are the only ones of this format that are create by the Xbox 360 itself. They are used to store saved games.

v1.1 comes with some bug fixes.

* Handling fragmentation of disc (v1.2)

I believe this might not be 'defragmenting' in the way your thinking. I hadn't seen a feature for it nor dont think he would be able to defrag the partition tree without being able to inject files. As they both would require routines to update the cluster chains. Which I don't think he's worked on yet.

Also, Gael360 if your reading this. Your wxPirs seems to still have some bugs like the old version and the legacy PirsToolz that were released. The Hash tables are causing all sorts of problems for your offset calculations. Attempting to extract the files from a PGR3 save 'CON_ File' results in all corrupt images. Popped the first one open and it had two JPEG Headers in the file. Therefore, somethings not right with either your filesize calculation or offset calculations.

You're right, I was speaking about looking in the partition bitmap to see if the file is continuous or fragmented... nothing more. And you're right too, I haven't worked on the 'write option'.

Yes, I still have problems with CON_ format... It looks like there is more 'hashtables' in CON_ files than in other.

Now that we have a lot of PIRS, LIVE and CON_ files, maybe we can start a new topic to solve this offset calculation problem?

Good thinking. If everyone else thought the same way, we'd have Geos still as our operating system. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Your post is a waste of time.

It's arguable that "xplorer360 owned the world" and new developers working on new projects often lead to programs that have different features than others or surpass the "competition".
