is there anything else I should do to see "transcode" item in the context menus ?
for which files (extension) I should see this item ?
is it enough to press "i" (info) button on my remote controller to get to the "more" menu item ?

Ilker you can test on your MCE machine if the software is correctly installed. You can browse to your Divx/Xvid file and right click on that file (do this in MCE). You than see a More item in the menu. Click the More option and you should see Transcode. If it's not displayed it's not installed correctly.

This is probably a dumb question but I can't find an answer.

If I have a hardware encoder in my machine will Windows Media Encoder/Transcode360 be able to make use of it? My fileserver doesn't have enough horsepower to transcode so I was wondering if adding a hardware encoder will help?

No, unfortunately I don't have "more" or "transcode" on the local MCE also.
Besides following command (which is used in installing Transcode 360) fails:

C:\Program Files\Transcode360>c:\windows\ehome\registermceapp.exe /allusers "C:\
Program Files\Transcode360\Transcode360.Add-In.mcl"

Failed

Why ? how to trace ?

I am tring to offload the processing to another machine. This machine is the one that also holds the video files I wish to transcode. I have mapped a drive on the Media PC as T: and also mapped the server to its own share as T: When I tr to transcode the file I get the error *WRN* Requested file does not ecist T:\Test.avi

An ideas? I have checked and both machines have a T: drive and test.avi is in the root of the share!

OKies O figured out what I was doing wrong. Needs to be mapped as UNC path!
Onl problem now is that when on the MediaPC I can see the shares of m server and map by UNC but when I start the XBOX Media Extender it only sees one share and that is on the Media Centre machine. It does not seem to see shares on my server. Am I missing something?

looks like media player is having problems. I would make sure media player can play the file first off. Also watch in the media player bar when it loads that it finds the codes. I had the same error and it was due to media player not finding the divx codes. It would say in the status bar of media player 'error downloading codec' then play normally using the XVID one. I reinstalled FFDSHOW and told it to decode xvid and divx. All seems fine now.

Cheers blinky that worked!

When I Transcode a file, it ocassionally has audio sync issues. The voices sound like the batteries are running out lol!, but then it goes back to normal. Anyone experieneced this?

By the way my Pc is connected to the 360 via Ethernet cable so i wouldnt have thought it would be lag on the Network.

ok, im replying to my own post on page 24.  i figured it out.  i just ran a registry cleaner and poof it worked.  i noticed that when i have trouble installing stuff or making it run when it normally had no problem, a registry cleaning worked.

Ok, an answer to my own question smile.gif I've managed to get AC3 sound working too:

1. I've set AC3 Filter (1.01a) to the 3/2+SW 5.1 channels profile
2. To increase the volume I've set the master gain to max. (20) and the voice and surrounds gains to 10
3. I edited the Transcode 360 16x9 profile to use the Windows Media Audio 9.1 Professional codec
4. I set the audio format to 384 kbps, 48 kHz, 5.1 channel 24 bit CBR

I also set the video resolution to 3500K bps (giving a total of 3893 Kbps).

And since I'm using it mostly for US TV-shows, I've set the frame rate to 23.976 fps.

My P4 3.2 HT Ghz that does the transcoding runs at about 60% now (on both logical CPU's).

I have tried this, and I still don't get AC3 5.1 on my receiver! just stereo PCM.

Can you please maybe make screenshots of your ac3filter and profile settings?

Is spdif enabled? are the spdif passthrough settings checked or unchecked?

Unfortunatly you wont be able to get 5.1 sound. You will only get stereo. Think it is something to do with the format of the transcoded files. If you have a look back through this thread you will find more information on it.

Please I still can't see any "transcode" menu item and need help...
