Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta

Help!  When I try and connect it says that my computer is refusing the connection.  I went to the transcode360 service and reentered by computer logon/password.  However, if I go to regedit and to the transcode 360 entry, for the server address it says, "localhost".  No matter how many times I change it, it does not change this registry entry.  Is this the problem?  Please help.   Below is my error.

Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta
« Reply #331 on: March 01, 2006, 09:24:00 AM »

My problem isn't so complex... I cant get the extender to see my media files.  They are stored on a network location and I've seen others say it works fine.  My Media Center can play them fine.

Tried mapping the drive but cant see drive in extender (also tried moving the mapping reg keys into the MCX1 user account)
Tried creating a shortcut to the network location in My Videos but get an error opening it (tried turning off all security on share)
Tried adding the share to My Network Places but cant get 360 to see it when going through UI to add videos on network

Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta
« Reply #332 on: March 01, 2006, 02:25:00 PM »

Ok, so I've managed to get the Xbox 360 to see files on my server through a network share using this guide:

http://blog.vanosdal...8292c9f722.aspx

However, Transcode360 doesn't work yet. I know this is because Transcode360 doesn't see the drive mappings that are created using the above guide.

Transcode360 is running under the MCE PC's local "Administrator" account.

What I have tried:

- creating a logon script for the local administrator account -> doesn't work
- creating persistent drive mappings that are the same as the ones for the MCE user -> doesn't work
- trying to run the transcode360.exe as a normal program instead of a service -> doesn't work

Apparently Windows won't use or create drive mappings for programs that are configured to run as a service with a user account.

A way around this would be to allow the transcode360.exe to run as a normal program so it would "see" the drive mappings. Any chance of a recompile to accomplish this?

Thanks.

all my videos run fine from the network.  I added them to media center by clicking add movies or whatever and just selected from network then found the network share.  In my case //comp5/movies  easy as that.

Still looking for some help. Someone has to have an idea of how to fix this error.

TRANSCODE360: EXCEPTION
Return argument has an invalid type.

PC is Running MCE 2005 with all the latest updates, The latest Windows Media Encoder.
Specs on the PC:
CPU: Athlon 64 4200 X2
GPU: GeForce 7800 GTX x2 in SLI
Capture Card: ATI eHome Wonder
HD Capture Card: AVerMedia AVerTVHD MCE A180
OS Drive: 160GB Samsung Spinmaster
Storage Drives: 2x400GB SATA drives in Raid 0, 1x 400GB SATA drive standalone, 1x250GB Sata drive standalone.
RAM: 1GB DDR
Codecs Installed: Divx 6.1.1, Nero Codecs.
Tried this with: Just Divx 6.1.1, Just ffdshow, Just xvid, combination of all three, With and without nero.
Tried to reinstall Transcode 360. The user is administrator of the system, and Transcode was installed with the correct permisions and username/password.

I get the same error when trying to transcode from the Xbox 360 OR the actual PC.
Thats about all I can think to post information about that might have any effect on the program. If anyone has any idea please post something. The error message appears almost instantly once I transcode and there is no output to the Transcode console.

Hmm strange, this works for me too now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Yesterday I didn't see any shares, but now I do. I am confused  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Anyway, this also solved my problem of offloading Transcode 360 to another machine (this works now too).

I've been tweaking the WME profiles a bit to get a higher bitrate and resolution and it seems to work well.

I do get very low volume on Xvid movies with AC3 (5.1) sound, but turning up the master volume of AC3 Filter seems to help.

Is there any way to get WME to pass through AC3 sound? Or re-encode it to AC3 again?

Ok, an answer to my own question (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I've managed to get AC3 sound working too:

1. I've set AC3 Filter (1.01a) to the 3/2+SW 5.1 channels profile
2. To increase the volume I've set the master gain to max. (20) and the voice and surrounds gains to 10
3. I edited the Transcode 360 16x9 profile to use the Windows Media Audio 9.1 Professional codec
4. I set the audio format to 384 kbps, 48 kHz, 5.1 channel 24 bit CBR

I also set the video resolution to 3500K bps (giving a total of 3893 Kbps).

And since I'm using it mostly for US TV-shows, I've set the frame rate to 23.976 fps.

My P4 3.2 HT Ghz that does the transcoding runs at about 60% now (on both logical CPU's).

Hello all,

Well installed the codes suggested on page one of this posting (XVid, DIVX & AC3) then went on to install transcode.

No problems... restarted my PC, went into my living room and turned on the 360.  Connected to media center fine then went to "My Videos" - within moments of being in my videos my remote stopped responding.  Went back to my PC and it too had hung.  After about 2-3 mins of nothing working my PC comes back to life and the xbox says it has lost its connection to the PC.

Anyone else had this problem/know a solution?  It almost seems that when trying to create thumbnails for the 360 to display it hangs...

Is anybody else having a problem watching a second video?  I can get through one video with absolutely no problems, everything is perfect, but once that stream is over, starting another one usually requires a reboot of the MCE machine.

Sometimes waiting an hour will also resolve the problem, but today I haven't streamed anything for a week, and it's not working.

When it gets into this state, when I select the "Transcode" option on the xbox, Media Center creates a new ehExtHost process belonging to my MCX1 user, but the process closes shortly after.  The Transcode360 service does not appear to be getting any notifcation that there is work to be done.

It appears to be an issue with the MCE plugin.  I don't have any experience developing or debugging MCE apps, so I'm at a bit of a loss for where to search.

Anybody else having this problem?

has anyone applied the new live update and still use the transcode 360 service? Does it still work or did the new update screw some stuff up? Does anyone actually know what the new update has/hasnt done? ive seen the thread regarding the update, but it still is unclear as to what it actually did.
thanks
