Xbox 360 Gamepad Support for XBCD-- Posted by XanTium on January 12 21:19 EST
A version of redcl0ud's XBCD(info) drivers has been modified by Matthew A. N. to support the Xbox 360 gamepad in Windows XP/2000/2003:

Quote

Although several people have verified these drivers work for them, they are still somewhat experimental. These drivers are licensed under the GNU GPL v2 and come with no warranty.
The XBCD setup utility does not properly detect the controls, although windows does.  You can still properly set all options in the XBCD setup utility and have them detected correctly in windows, they just will not show in the XBCD page of the utilty.

To install these patches, first install the XBCD v1.07 package then run the Install.bat file in this patch archive. This will install the modified drivers. Make sure you downloaded the correct version for your operating system. I was unable to use the winxp drivers in win2k, although I am not able to test any other configurations.
Dhruvb11 has created a guide and instructional video detailing the installation and configuration procedure.

Development Overview:
v0.1.0: Initial version of modified driver.
v0.1.1: This version contains an alternate method to detect if a connected pad is an Xbox 360 pad. This means it will support more Xbox 360 compatiable gamepads.
v0.2.0: Version 0.2.0 contains support for rumble and sets the LEDs on the pad so that they do not blink (or stay off). Enjoy :).
v0.2.1: Version 0.2.1 has the left and right rumble motors, the X and Y buttons, and the right stick's axes swapped. Also the guide button now switches layouts. Thanks to Tiddles for some of this work. A USB ID for the Pelican XSZ Wired Controller was also added.
v0.2.2rc1: Version 0.2.2 includes changes from Tacvek/guest2 and Tiddles. Their updates include a registry value for setting the gamepad LEDs, and changing the LEDs when the guide button is pressed. This release canidate is source only.

i hope the people who made CuxCtrl for the original xbox controller makes an update that works with the 360 controllers because CuxCtrl IMO is the best drivers for xbox controllers

Does this driver support the wireless controller when connected via the charging USB cable?

the cable for the wireless controller only supplys POWER to the controller to charge it. thats all. it doesnt send data. its purely for power ONLY. so it will not work. sucks that MS did it that way. they sould have made it so you can use it on a PC via the cable but they didnt mad.gif

That is a USB port on the controller however so it stands to reason it should be able to be adapted to be used on a PC. If I get some time I will have a closer look at it.Right now Im batteling the flu or something so havent touched anything.

yeah i know! bastards mad.gif i tried as soon as i got the plug n play adapter, but the drivers didn't work. but hey, when you play with the plug n play does it work by sending data through the usb cable or charging the battery and allowing it to run in wireless?

anyway, this is good news about the driver release! redcl0ud's drivers are probably heaps better than the MS ones. i love using these drivers for all my xbox(3rd party too) controllers.

This is not true. If the Play 'n' Charge cable only carries power then how come when I connect it to my PC, XP goes through the New Hardware wizard. I have a 60GB USB drive that has a special cable for seperate power over USB and when I connect that cable alone to my computer the drive powers up but XP does not detect it at all.
Anyways I have my fingers crossex that MS will enable hte wireless controller for PC at some point down the road. Hopefully sooner than later.

And if I am missing something here, like a quote directly from MS someone please post it. I tried calling them and got the usual runaround of usless idiots.

Why are there no complaints that this driver does not recognize the 360 gamepad's analog trigger as...well, Y'know, analog triggers?

Is there an alternative driver that will recognize my triggers as axis and not digital buttons?
