Black Screen On Video First Time
« on: February 04, 2005, 04:50:00 AM »

hi ive asked this question on a few xbox forums and im hoping here someone will have the answer.

First time after booting XBMC any video file when opened displays no video (black) but the sound plays fine. if you quit the playback and reload it plays fine. This isnt a file or codec type problem as all video files are the same.

Anyone know how to resolve this?

This is your overlay filter i think. Try using a different apect ratio. or changing the filter to pixel shader.

Actually I dont mean to sound stupid here, but when you first load a video file after a fresh boot up i dont think it matters what aspect ratio you try and use its always black, the only cure ive found to this point is to quit the first playback and reload the video file.

The pixel shader option you mention did this cure any problems for you? I remember now vaguely changing the playback filter in the main options of XMBC to 3 I think as it plays better on my dell LCD via video in, wonder if that might be causing some issue with the codecs loading the first time.

well I dont know if this is a cure as such but ive found a solution to this issue on my setup. if you have it set to "custom" view mode and shut down, next time you reboot video plays fine first time. if you dont have it set to custom you need to either load a video file, then quit it, reload or select a different aspect ratio.
