Not Sure About Title Updates...
« on: December 21, 2010, 11:42:00 PM »

1. Yup its still in Partition 3 in the folder 'Cache.' I just verified it on my 60gb HDD in Xport.

2. As far as I can see, yes.

3.You may need to Yaris Swap the TUs(if some are console locked), but you should be good. Try yaris swapping if they don't work. Or directly patching the default.xexp to the default.xex to make sure, as well as patching/adding any other files you need to patch/move. If you need a guide to do the later let me know.

4. Correct.

I run all my games from an external USB drive, so it would seem that it would be simplest to just apply the patches straight to the game, then no matter what dash or loader I use they are going to be up-to-date. I can understand if it's as simple as overwriting the files with those from the TU but aren't a set of files, eg. the borderlands TU5 is TU_1A581V7_000000C000000.00000000000O3 - does it need to be extracted to get the files out or something? plus another thing I've noticed with FSD is that it can sometimes only find for eg. TU 2. TU 3 and TU 4 for a title, so does that mean the TU files aren't all needed? I would expect them to be sequential / incremental patches but is it a case of 'the latest one is used' and others are ignored?

You could simply plop in a HDD or I think even a XTAF usb drive formatted in the Dashboard would work, and put your title updates in there. Though I normally try to patch all my .xex's with the title update's default.xexp and put all the files expected in their locations. This would probably be ideal for you too if you don't have a HDD to hold your title update files in.

That file for boarderlands TU_1A581V7_000000C000000.00000000000O3 holds the default.xexp and the rest of the files needed for the update to work. You can extract them using Le Fluffie.

I haven't used the TU thing for Freestyle as I have a live box I get Title Updates from but only 1 title update is needed and that is the latest one.

Also here is a little guide I wrote up a while back for direct patching:

Also for .dllp files I think those can be patched with xextool as well I just have never tried it.

I actually have a 60gb internal drive as well as the external drive so I won't be able to inject the TUs into a USB stick or anything because AFIAK it will look to the cache folder on the internal drive prior to checking a USB device.
One more question, how can the TUs be put onto the internal drive, into the cache folder? Is there a method using FTP or software on the xbox? I don't have the facility to connec the internal drive to a PC.
Is the folder structure just Hdd1:\cache\TU_1A581V7_000000C000000.00000000000O3 ? I'm not really clear on wether the cache folder is in the partition that the xbox 'sees' in file manager software such as xmxmenu or FSD or if it's one of the 'hidden' partitions
