Is It Safe To Update Freestyle Dash On An Unbanned Console
« on: December 02, 2010, 05:59:00 PM »

I was looking at this yesterday, on mine if I go into FSD2.0a and 'Check For Updates' my console opens a connection to 65.55.42.202 port 80 (ie Microsoft)

I'm guessing it's trying to download covers/ screenshots etc.

The easiest thing to do is to go into your router and reserve your consoles MAC address an IP address. Then in your firewall block your consoles IP address from connecting to 65.54.0.1-65.55.255.255. Your router will then stop the console from 'phoning home'.

Perhaps I'll stick to offline updates. Seems safer.

just block xbl in the nxe dash and block xbl acct creation, make sure your resistor has been pulled, and you are good to go.

Is there any way to block live at the router level? Or does it use uPnP or something? If it's limited to a handful of ports I'd just go ahead and block them. The only info I can find relates to xbox(1) live connections, is it the same as 360?
