Internet On Jtag Xbox
« on: January 24, 2010, 12:37:00 PM »

As I understand, the ethernet port on the 360 hasn't been cracked yet.

Why not try tethering a smartphone to provide an internet connection for the box directly thru USB? I got this idea from when I moved & had no internet. I tethered  my iPhone with my laptop thru USB then shared an internet connection with my 360 thru ehternet. That's right, I had an Apple device working with a MS one indirectly.  smile.gif

I was able to play Live with limited features & it barely cost me any data with AT&T.

Possibilities:

1. FTP over the internet.

2. FTP over smartphone's wifi with your PC.

3. Internet browser on xbox.

4. ??A private multiplayer server where jtag'd box owners can play each other??

My coding experience is a joke so I cannot run any farther with this idea. I hope someone can try to see if this could work.

Umm I'm not really sure what you are on about.
You can run a web browser on a 360 thru Linux, and you have been able to since the King Kong exploit in 2007.  Remote FTP via the internet is easily achieved with your local network set up.

Network traffic is encrypted when using the MS kernel on a retail box. Recently, people have found a way to get around the encryption by modifying every packet sent from the xbox.

As for the OP's question, tethering works just fine. USB tethering will probably never work, but WIFI tethering would work just fine.
I haven't tested it personally, but I can connect my laptop to the internet no problem WIFI->iphone->3G so I don't see why xbox live wouldn't connect.

Anyways it doesn't matter either way because ethernet works fine now
