So this is honnestly one of the most frusterating computer issues i've run into in a long time.
About a year ago i ordered a ton of Ridata 2.4x dvd+r DL discs. Before i tried to use these dvds i was using sony dvd+r dl rw discs, these work like a charm, no harm to drive and play great for official backups of games i own. When i tired to burn a game using the ridata discs, the burn suceeds and the game works. Sad thing is the PC drive will never work again!!! The drive essentailly becomes really sick, it takes like a half hour for it to read a dvd with data on it, and even when it actually does mount the volume it shows it as blank. Most of the time it fails to mount the volume. Ubuntu is giving me the error "private remote volume monitor failed: an operation is already pending". Dumb vista is just crashing on its explorer and completely failing to open a dvd or opening it as blank when it is not.
ok the worst part is I should have learned my lesson a year ago when this happened, it broke my lite-on DL dvd drive. Well just today i decided to burn a ridata again on my new samsun SH-233Q dl drive. I was thinking its just a media, one crummy disc (which ridata isn't even that crummy) shouldn't break my drive that was just a fluke last time. Nope it did it again!!!
Worst part is i have a slight premention these drives arn't really broken, but according to alot of research the symtoms are of a ehfed up lazer. Anyone had any problems like this, or know how to fix my drives?
