Avi From Portable Harddrive
« on: December 09, 2007, 11:08:00 PM »

i pluged my portable drive to the 360 and it reads it and even sees the avi file.  when i try to play it it gives me a 51-c00df236 error.  i just connected to live and downloaded the update that allows avi's to play but it still wont work.  it comes up with the same error, do i have to be connected to live for this to work.  please give any ideas you have.

I have the same issues on some .avi files. I think it has to do with the audio codecs not being recognized by the 360. Either that or  something with the video file itself. I had one file that played halfway through and then gave me the error. It was weird. But most files work fine. Try re-encoding the file. Thats about all I know to do.

To convert it to wmv, i think WinAvi works, not sure what to use for .avi, not entirly sure of capabilitys of WinAvi. You can use some of the programs in the tools section of this site.
