Xbox Os From M$
« on: April 11, 2006, 05:42:00 AM »

the xbox 360 is a great piece of hardware, but the software side is lacking a lot.... PS3 wil have Linux OS on a 60gb HD, why M$ a software giant didn't make a special version of windows for the 360? windows 360 would make m$ boost the 360 sales!!! and alot.... it is a great "PC", 3.2Ghz in 3 cores,  512mb of very fast ram, an excelente GPU and an HD, it could be released on newer HD with higher capacity then 20gb that would be a killer for my 360, the Real Media center PC and console in one...

Well, I believe that the topic poster is trying to say that they would like MS to release an Operating System for the XBOX 360 just like what Sony did several years ago by releasing the Linux Kit for PS2.

You know, a Linux kit for XBOX 360 might actually be a good idea but don't expect MS to do something like this since they really don't like open source software/open source operating systems.

Seeing a full fledged operating system on a console just isn't right. It defeats the purpose of having a console. Not only that, but do you think MS wants to compile a new version of Windows XP for PowerPC based processors? What about the GPU? Who's gonna write the driver for that? Yeah, it would be nice to see a "Windows 360" but I doubt it would boost sales. They wanna boost Xbox 360 game sales, not PC game sales.

The great thing about Linux, is that people from all over the world can contribute. Numerous open-source monkeys will gladly work with PS3 Linux, taking some of the work off of Sony. Not only that, but who cares really? I enjoy Xbox-Linux, love doing all that stuff on my Xbox, but consoles are really about games. You might see an Internet Browser. Possibly an e-mail client, but MS isn't interested in making a complete full fledged computer like Sony is. In my eyes at least.

I'd like to see a bigger hard drive, but not for the price MS is selling it at. I understand they're trying to get alot of money back from manufacturing these beasts, but 100$ for a 20 GB HD is irrational. I got a 200 GB 7200 RPM SATA HD for my computer for only like 87$! Works great!

well, all we need is a free xdk or a way to start homemade software, the xbox kernel gives us everything to run applications, an OS with windows and menus is unnecessary.
