I got two machines

xp pro
win2003 Server.

I also use a mod'd xbox with xbmc which gets everything from the 2k3 server

everything I have, pics, vids, mp3's etc is on the 2003 server. I use the server too much for other things to take it down. And I don't want to alter the XP machine.


I can't install media connect on the 2k3 server as it won't let me.

My question is this

Is there some way to get media connect on my XP machine to use the files on my 2k3 server?

if i map a drive to them, and setup the folder in media connect, it doesn't show on the 360.   I tried the subst command for kicks, but it didn't work either.

from everything I'm reading I'm left with two choices if there isn't any way to use networked drives.

1. install MCE on one of the machines, even multiboot.

2.  Make two copies of all my stuff on two machines and just setup media connect


Right now I'm only concerned with pics/mp3's

I couldn't find a way around this either - seems to be a restriction of WMC. A pain as all my content is on a NAS drive.

Solved by installing MCE2005 /overkill
