Xbox LIVE Gold Price Increase in USA, UK, Canada and Mexico

HotKnife420 your missing the point here, your not paying to use Facebook on live, your paying for the server that hosts Facebook ie. MS owned.

Facebook probably get a small fee from MS or the other way round but Facebook makes all its money from Ads and companies paying to advertise use it as a luring scheme to get users to use that device or page/site.

Sony will ether charge or give Facebook cash to have it on the console, but in the long run it benefits both companies as they both get more publicity, that in return will make them more money.

PSN uses Sony's own cash or sponsored Servers to host stuff and online gaming on the PS3 is P2P no server based ferrying done by Sony, it could go from your PS3 to 1000 different servers (all low bandwidth) before it hits mine this would mean longer ping and more latency this would produce lag.

Xbox goes from your Xbox to MS Servers (there could be 1000 MS servers but there not public or low bandwidth) to my Xbox.

again I'm not trying to start an argument but you seem to miss the point in what I'm saying Xbox live is hosted by MS Servers without the Fee these wouldn't exist.

as for the PS3 i ported forward the ports all that done was reduce my NAT to Open still dint fix the slow Game updates or lag online (<-- from time to time)

Obveron
I'm in the UK and i only see the odd Ad and that's usually a video on the dash about a game or movie but the American XBLS is a lot more advanced than ours, we get half the shit you get, and still pay more with your increase ($10) included if you use the exchange rate.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

we pay in store £39.99 ($62.00) for 12 month XBL, the UK is the third most expensive country in the world to live in and right now with the economy up the shitter its worse but I budget my money appropriately where i can afford to buy luxuries (xbox live).

i understand that increasing the price is a pain and we want more for our money but like peeps have stated inflation, economy's going up the shitter cause this.

No, I got that point. I'm not trying to make this turn into an argument either - but my point is that all these extra things that are going thru the servers IS stuff that I (and others like me) don't use.  MS can hype Gold up all they want with these extra features, but they're still things that I didn't need and never asked for. You also said that Facebook + Sony = More Publicity (and therefore more revenue) for both - Why would this NOT be true for MS, then? Why does Netflix work perfectly from my PS3 without Sony charging me an additional fee (see facebook equation), but not for MS? In other words, if both companies are offering the SAME THING, then why is it that one offers them in their free/standard service, and the other ONLY offers them to their paid/premium service?

Bottom line: I simply want to access multiplayer gaming, and I have 0 problems with this on the PS3. I understand that you've tried port forwarding and static IP and that hasn't helped YOU.... but for me and many others that was the most we had to do. Perhaps you have a defective PS3, or perhaps there's something else that's causing the problem that's been overlooked, but the slow speeds YOU experience are not what everyone is experiencing.

If you view me as cheap, then fine. I spend my money on other things in life, and I've already let my Gold account lapse without missing it much (although tbh, if it weren't for the ability to use kai, I'd really be hurtin'). Both companies are out to get my money, but I keep getting the feeling that only one of them appreciates my money, and the other simply takes it for granted. I will continue to voice MY frustration to MS by not renewing my membership, and using kai as much as possible.

Once every so often, search Slickdeals for Xbox Live. Deals for $30/yr. pop up regularly. Occasionally even less then that.

M$ does NOT USE DEDICATED SERVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Companies like 2k for example provide them if they so choose. M$ has NOTHING to do with this.  Nothing goes through M$ servers when playing online. Why do you think there is a host?  If you connect to a host, you are a client.  Why do you think host advantage is such a huge deal.  Matchmaking, is not having dedicated servers.  Its just a system within the game that chooses the best host based on various filters.

As for the PSN....i dont know what half of you fan boys mean by, its just laggy and terrible.  The only up for XBL is the interface and how one interacts with friends (interface).  THATS IT.  Its the same thing only XBL has more makeup.  Kinda like Macs (overpriced) compared to PC's, and PC's give you double or more the performance.  Its all aesthetics.  Well its also fact that Apple is the Hitler of computers, and want you to only use apple hardware, so that way they can rape you on price.

As for the price....i dont know why so many are so surprised.  This is M$ were talking about here.

MS doesn't have to physically provide the dedicated servers, but they can provide the RESOURCES to give developers the incentive to use dedicated servers for their games (such as money, labor, ect).  Like I noted previously, not all titles need dedicated servers, but titles that rely on heavy bandwidth usage such as MW2 would benefit greatly from them.

What people are complaining about is that there is no significant difference between the the Playstation Network and Live's network to justify a yearly fee. There is no "meat and potato" answer for why Live is a better service then the PSN.

This is ridiculous. I've been with Xbox Live since day one of the original Xbox. I'm just so disappointed with this, WHY MICROSOFT WHY? It seems Sony get's it but Microsoft does not. You know the cost of living for everything is going up, but why isn't my paycheck? "It's because of the Economy" Bullcrap !!!! Why does Microsoft continue to charge for what Sony and Nintendo are giving away for FREE? "Oh our service is better than those other guy's" Why the heck do I need Facebook on my Xbox? That's why I own a freaking laptop. I don't give a rats ass about Video On Demand. Anyone heard of RedBox? Oh and how about LastFM. WTF I've got 20 radios in my house including one in my goddarned toothbrush! When it boils down to it , I have it for gaming and nothing else. So here's what I learned from the moral of this story...... The next time I decide to sell my car I will install an 8-Track player and jack up the price an extra $3000. Why's it so expensive? It's the extra features of course.

I agree.  PSN is no different when it comes to actual online gameplay. Thats the point i was making.
