How do people gain access to the content on the servers? Through a network! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! Is that network free? Last time I checked it wasnt.

My point was the lack of understanding of what a "network" actually is and what MSFT actually does with theirs.

By all means though, continue to blindly believe whatever corporations tell you to believe.

At some point, you can only add $10 so many times before it is way too much.  Saying "only $10" now is about as stupid of an argument as one can have.  If they start making this common place and want to do it again in 2 years, will that be too much?  What about 2 years after that?  At some point, I am sure you will take issue.  The problem with your ideology is that you are thinking only on the surface by the number they charge, instead of the principle of what is actually happening.

I have been a Live subscriber since day one of the 360 launch. However thinking back on my time as a gold member I can count on one hand how many times I have actually played a multilayer game on Live.

This mere $10 increase has finally gave me pause on exactly why I have even bothered with this service that I just simply find of no use to me at all.

However I do buy some games on demand and Live Arcade games but this does not require that subscription cost as far as I know so.... Bye bye Live Gold!

I think the reason people are upset is because most of us use Xbox Live for multiplayer gaming. Personally I don't use my Xbox for Facebook, Twitter, or Netflix (I'm in Canada, but wouldn't use it if I was in the US anyway), and paying extra for online gaming seems a little backwards. Wii and PS3 owners play online for free, so justifying a price hike seems to be more based on greed rather than an increase in service.

MS is always touting that these extra features they introduce are FREE for Gold Subscribers. It's mighty misleading to say something is free and then just up your sub price.

I could see if MS actually provided the network we use to game on, but they do not. Now there are talks that EA and Activision will soon be charging their own fees for online play. So what exactly will I be paying MS for? $60 for access to pay for online gaming? If you don't see that as ridiculous then you are a moron.

I'll break down the service we are paying for which are actually FREE in the real world:
Online Gaming = free everywhere else
Twitter = Free everywhere else (look it's on my ipod!)
Facebook = free (also on my ipod!!!)
LastFM = free service online
Chat = free online
Voice Chat = Free online

Maybe MS should offer me some other free things and then charge me for them. Here is a list of things in case someone from MS is reading this (haha yea right):

Maps
News
Email
Weather
Calculator
The Time

Maybe MS would like to charge me for things I need to play Xbox. Here is a list:
Power Adapter Rental fee
Video Output fee
Audio Output fee (free for silver, or upgrade to Gold for 5.1 access!)
Wireless Controller Usage fee (based on usage per minute)
USB Access fee ($1 per month per USB port)

Hurry MS people are dying to pay you!!!!!!!

Ha ha lol I love this  jester.gif

I don't use Live anymore, and when I do, I usually just find a free code to play for a while. Still, this is bullshit, and if you're paying $60 a year ($50 was more than enough), then there should not be a single ad on Live or in any Live game, period. Having said that, when I used to use Live, I always found 13 month subscriptions for $30 or less.

A better solution is to use xlink, no pay, if you play with a certain group of peeps just send each other ur names you create and wa-la free online play, I could care less about how much it cost pple are bitching at a company that knows how to make money from their ideas/creation. It's the same if one of you had your own successful business and charged x-amount for so long then you add new features and raise the price. It's called LIFE deal with it. And no pun intended

This price increase is all to do with pushing people to different packages remember theres a family pack coming out around the time of the price increases which from what i remember is only another 30 dollars more then the new price.

instead of people moaning just don't renew or pay for the subs if people did that and the numbers dropped ms would have to lower the price the same goes for dlc which i rate highly over priced but idiots keep paying it they will continue to rip us off.

Everything moves along with the times, everything is constantly evolving and yes microsoft are playing to the masses with things like facebook twitter and the like. But nobodys forcing you to use them. What you pay for is mainly for running the service. and if you are used to paying out for a decent service then whats the extra £1 or whatever.
I genuinely doubt that. I think the overheads associated with running a service like XBL are more than covered by the millions Microsoft receive from selling advertising space. The NXE was designed specifically to maximise ad space - fact. Add to that the profits from the avatar props and general Marketplace sales etc and it's obvious the service would survive without a subscription fee.

I'm not complaining, just pointing out that the money you spend on the Gold sub is not going towards running the service. You are simply paying for the privilege of accessing the service. I'd imagine most of your £35 (or whatever it is in your country) a year is pure profit to Microsoft.

Hence why PSN has always been far behind XBL
In what sense?. I've had no issues with the service. It does the same as Live but for free.

I got purchased 13month-XBL account, but I've been banned after 3months. ohmy.gif I didn't played much ether. my exprience is XBL-server quit stable, But I don't like voice-chat in game at all, because there are always some kids who talking craps. so I always turn the mic off.

I think this price is acceptable if:
- allow pirate gamer to play online  laugh.gif

when you buy a game and that game supports online-multiplayer, it should allow you to play online. (yes for free!). I don't know what you guys are thinking, I always looking for cheapest way play games. I beter spent the unnecessary money at the bar. biggrin.gif

I've heard that PS3 is now hackable. I plan to pick it up for chrismas. laugh.gif

If your lucky and turn your head at just the right moment Microsoft may even give you a kiss after f@#king you up the arse. No good justifiable reason to up the price other than pure greed, service wasn't worth $49.99 much less $59.99.

This isn't correct. Any money you pay them at all is going towards profit or company expenses. Without paying them, there is no expenses. So, when you pay them, there is expenses because now the company has a market.

Has no one noticed that it is a 20% mark up? What can really justify that?  The economy is horrible in the USA, and a USA corporation wants to hike prices by 20%. Yes, you might be out of a job or have to make less money at your job, but Micro$oft still needs theirs and they need even more!

Anyways, my principal is not to sponsor or defend any company's price hike, or be an aggressor towards those who won't.

Keep paying, just shut up, and keep paying. Keep defending mega corporations, just shut up, and keep defending. Be the good number that you are.

I suspect it would be a good time for $ony to start their advertisement of "We're raising the price of free by 20%. And yes, it's still free!"

Why dont they make it free? Oh thats right because it will turn into shit and end up being like PSN. We pay for a reason, servers arent free, power isnt free, maintainence of servers isnt free, amount of networking it takes isnt free. Shall I continue?

You must not have any familiarity with PSN. Sure, XBL has some features that are awesome that PSN does not - but PSN more that gets the job done. You can play online, you have a friends list, text and voice chat (cross game voice chat supposedly later this year - I'm betting on when the patent on the old codec expires), video conference chat, access webpages, etc. Facebook & Netflix are integrated, too (Netflix will also no longer require the disc for PS3 later this year). PSN is STILL FREE.

You're also not taking into account that the servers for XBL only manage friends/chat, and their matchmaking system - none of the bandwidth for gaming goes through it. Nor the fact that there's a million and one ways to do all this stuff on PC for free, too. Including dedicated servers.

EA is already doing it. If you don't buy a game new, then you'll have to buy a code from them to play online.

You have to have a gold account for Netflix so they are charging you, Netflix is the only reason I bought a gold account (already used Netflix).  Guess what kind of subscription I need to watch Netflix on my PS3

With this 20% price hike does this mean the in game advertisements and Nxe adds will go away? No
Or is this to get rid of all the cheaters ? probably not

For the small amount of time I spend online I am now justified on my $350 Jasper jtag I can Play my games on a free network like Xlink Kai. I have a Ps3 and its more of a blue ray player, but I think its time to go it for multiplayer. Even if they start to charge it'll still be cheaper. I just wish you didn't have 2 days worth of updates every time I turn it on.
