I'm good until jan 2012 and I'll probably renew then if I don't come across another sweet deal before that. $10 isn't a big deal for a service I like to use and keeps me playing with friends.

For a minute there I thought they said something crazy like they were going to increase the cost of Live lol........ oh wait, they did!, WTF?! blink.gif .

I've been a gold subscriber since Xbox1 days but after this I'm done. I used to defend the yearly subscription charges but that was before they started covering my dash with adds and offering no real benefits gold vs silver. It hasn't been worth the price for some time now IMHO. My sub runs out at the end of 2011 and I won't be renewing (I wasn't planning to regardless of this news).

From now on any games I want to play online will be bought for PS3. I can live without Halo  tongue.gif . I just wish the PS3 controller was as good as the 360's.

Waaaahhh! I have to pay a whole extra $10/year for the best online service available.... Waaaahhhh!

You cheap ass cry babies...seriously. This equates to a whole .83 cents extra per month. So now you are paying $5/month for your service.

Microsoft does not charge you extra for Netflix, or FF, or any EA Sports game, that is those companies making you pay extra, you don't want to pay then don't play those games or use the service.

PS3's and Wii have the same exact problem, oh but you don't have to pay for the base online service... that's why they will never be as good as XBox Live.

Really people if all you are going to do is complain about every move MS makes please install Ubuntu, sell your XBox, and just stop, nobody likes a hypocrite. You are the same, self entitled crybabies that complain when MS bans people for playing pirated games.

If you paypal me $10 I promise to spend the funds on XBL smile.gif

If only I could use my wireless 360 controller on the PS3...
I guess I'll attempt one of those mods to put the 360 controller's guts in a PS3 DS3 shell smile.gif

Also, good thing I already pre-ordered 14 months of Live for £30.99.

Personally, I like the DS3 better - especially the D-pad. There is an adapter you can buy for the PS3 as well - it's about $10-$15 on dealextreme, I believe.

By UK-ers arguements, anybody who lives in a country (usually the USA) that pays less for something they do does not have the right to complain about price increases... smdh...

You do realize that income, cost of living, and precedents are factors that people consider when they complain about price hikes, right? Maybe you make more than people like me and therefore don't care about things like this, because the effect is lesser on yourself.

Also, remember that YOU are getting a price increase, too (as this covers USA, UK, and Mexico).

Look, I in no way intended to flame in my post, I responded and I typed strait from brain to keyboard. Look I understand they said they were going to charge the same, but until the response to my post stated that no one even brought that up as a valid arguing point. That is a valid point, to say WTF too, but reality is these networks cost money to run, servers cost money to keep online. Sony and Nintendo will only be able to keep their service free for so long before even they will have to charge. At some point someone is going to look at the bottom line and say this is not going to work. Microsoft is no different than any other major corporation, Nintendo, Sony, Apple, ect... They all are finding ways to take money out of our pockets, some are just better at fooling everyone into thinking they have our best interests in mind.

Someone said that people have a right to bitch, yep you're right they do. But I also have a right to respond, maybe a little more tactful in the future, but I have been on this forum long enough to know that sometimes that is all people do is bitch. Yet at the end of the day they are still playing their XBox, still on Live (despite what they say), and will still be around when the next XBox comes out.

I think the best reply was the one stating take your money elsewhere if it really bothers you that much. MS does not care what is posted in these forums, they will respond to one thing and one thing only, and that is money. Which is the same for any other corporation in the world, despite what they would have you believe.

Ireland (republic) is a EURO-country, so I assume prices do not change there.
Northern Ireland (GBP) will probably follow the UK price raise.

Why dont they make it free? Oh thats right because it will turn into shit and end up being like PSN. We pay for a reason, servers arent free, power isnt free, maintainence of servers isnt free, amount of networking it takes isnt free. Shall I continue?

"Amount of networking?"

I was unaware that "networking" was a quantifiable value.

PSN is much better than it used to be, we cannot continue to let MSFT get away with murder by just using the tired old PSN comparison.  Fact is, everyone is paying for everything right now, when you should be paying for what you want/use.

I, like many others, do not need the Facebook/Twitter/Netflix/etc "features" however, I am forced to incur the cost of said features.  If I recall, many moons ago, MSFT didn't include Wireless or HDDVD built in so end users wouldn't have to pay for things they wouldn't use.

Hmm...

Sounds quite a bit different to what they are doing now doesn't it?  Sort of sounds like they are just saying whatever suits their interests at the moment.  At one point they are looking out for us so we don't pay for things we don't want, the next, they are requiring we pay for everyone or get nothing.

Make up your mind Microsoft and offer tiered pricing schemes for those that don't want any of the "features" you claim everyone loves.

They should offer basic online play for free-no voice chat, messages etc but then charge people for the extras.

That would be the fairer way of doing things.

Anyways, with the release of the PSN+ I can see Sony starting to charge for basic online play soon once they see how much MS is making off LIVE.

I think the reason people are upset is because most of us use Xbox Live for multiplayer gaming. Personally I don't use my Xbox for Facebook, Twitter, or Netflix (I'm in Canada, but wouldn't use it if I was in the US anyway), and paying extra for online gaming seems a little backwards. Wii and PS3 owners play online for free, so justifying a price hike seems to be more based on greed rather than an increase in service.

MS is always touting that these extra features they introduce are FREE for Gold Subscribers. It's mighty misleading to say something is free and then just up your sub price.

I could see if MS actually provided the network we use to game on, but they do not. Now there are talks that EA and Activision will soon be charging their own fees for online play. So what exactly will I be paying MS for? $60 for access to pay for online gaming? If you don't see that as ridiculous then you are a moron.

I'll break down the service we are paying for which are actually FREE in the real world:
Online Gaming = free everywhere else
Twitter = Free everywhere else (look it's on my ipod!)
Facebook = free (also on my ipod!!!)
LastFM = free service online
Chat = free online
Voice Chat = Free online

Maybe MS should offer me some other free things and then charge me for them. Here is a list of things in case someone from MS is reading this (haha yea right):

Maps
News
Email
Weather
Calculator
The Time

Maybe MS would like to charge me for things I need to play Xbox. Here is a list:
Power Adapter Rental fee
Video Output fee
Audio Output fee (free for silver, or upgrade to Gold for 5.1 access!)
Wireless Controller Usage fee (based on usage per minute)
USB Access fee ($1 per month per USB port)

Hurry MS people are dying to pay you!!!!!!!

I've been a Live subscriber from day 1, I don't think they've added any 'new features' since then that i can honestly say i use frequently, or would even miss. For the price we already pay we should get dedicated servers for the big games, a much faster dashboard & some other features that dont include advertisements.

flip. Cant believe their is so many upset because their going to charge abit extra. Get over it, Its not much extra. Just consider what you get with xbox live.
I did and have now decided it isn't worth £35 a year.

If you hate paying up stop buying consoles and games. Or go to sony and complain about their service being poor and not as good as microsoft.
Why would I or anyone else stop buying consoles and games just because one company is overcharging for a service?  blink.gif The logical thing to do is simply see what the competition has to offer and switch if it suits you. As far as I can see PSN offers the same (in some respects more) than XBL. It's not like it was a few years ago where the only options to play online were PC or Xbox.

Agreed. Or maybe even limit silver accounts to 20hrs a month multiplayer access or something.

Sadly I can see Sony trying to charge for PSN soon too.

How do people gain access to the content on the servers? Through a network! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! Is that network free? Last time I checked it wasnt.

to all the people bitching about the people who are "bitching", just shut up and go suck MS's d***

seriously though, why even post here? Go on Xbox.com and make a post telling the world how glad you are about the price increases. Of course people are pissed, and $10 is %20 price increase. this is BS

When you say "Oh it's just a little bit it doesn't matter", you're just supporting the same idealogy that gives more power to corporations and government, and less power to the regular joe.

The only thing that might be an interesting new addition to live is if there is ad-free Hulu, but even then I can just download that stuff anyways.

And not that I am well versed on the subject, but I don't think Xbox Live servers really cost that much. For one, they don't actually host the games or the netflix movies, and all the DLC they make money from. The only thing that might be a drain are the game demo's, but I could care less about those. Besides implimentation, I think it actually costs MS very little in terms of bandwidth. They have huge server farms anyways so what gives. @scopen4, just read your post and you're an idiot. Is google.com a network? Is it free? yeah... good one.

Name one reason why XBL would cost more to run than any other free online service (especially given all the ads). Sure they get more volume than other consoles, but they get a TON of money too. This should be taken as a big F you to all of the loyal XBL subscribers, and it is!! ruined my morning!
