Microsoft announced the price of the Xbox LIVE Gold subscription will increase for users in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom and the United States starting November 1st 2010:
Quote

Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.

However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription.

The prices change as follow (unlisted packages do not change in price):

* USA
1M Gold:  $7.99 (now) - $9.99 (starting Nov 1, 2010)
3M Gold:  $19.99 (now) - $24.99 (starting Nov 1, 2010)
12M Gold:  $49.99 (now) - $59.99 (starting Nov 1, 2010)

* UK
1M Gold:  4.99 GBP (now) - 5.99 GBP (starting Nov 1, 2010)

* Canada
1M Gold:  $8.99 CAD (now) - $9.99 CAD (starting Nov 1, 2010)

* Mexico
12M Gold:  499 Pesos (now) - 599 Pesos (starting Nov 1, 2010)

I doubt you're buying them for half price.  You can find them for big discounts yes, but half price is a bit of a stretch.  Best I've seen is the 12m for 39.99.

If you really can find them for half price, then do share, otherwise, I call BS.

This is BS, especially since nearly everything they have added involves cost in some way.

Suddenly loosing other OS doesn't seem that bad.

Watch deal aggregator sites. They pop up for $30 and under once every couple months. I'm currently set through 2012 because of this.

Yes Dell had them a few weeks for $30, sometimes walmart, buy.com. amazon.com and newegg.com have them for $30-35 on sale.

This is really a bunch of bullshit.

How bout they give us dedicated servers for games like Halo and such so we don't have dipshit kids standbying and other network connect bugs they pull to win.

keep your eyes on slickdeals etc, dell usually has them for $30-33 or random amazon stores.

Last 2 years I've paid around $33 each.

How about everyone that is complaining vote with your wallets and just say no to Xbox Live.  It is the only way to send a clear message, bitching on a board about it gets you very little.

So, come nov 1st, not only are they gonna ban my console (my own fault, admittedly), they're also gonna charge me extra for live!?

Time to turn to Sony for online play methinks. I still have 2 JTAG consoles anyways. Fuck m$. Fuck major nelson.

Exactly. When my subscription expires. I'm done with these guys. Soon enough people are going to pay 100 bucks a year just to play Call of Duty online. Only upside to that? All the little kids won't be able to spoil the fun.

Waaaahhh! I have to pay a whole extra $10/year for the best online service available.... Waaaahhhh!

You cheap ass cry babies...seriously. This equates to a whole .83 cents extra per month. So now you are paying $5/month for your service.

Microsoft does not charge you extra for Netflix, or FF, or any EA Sports game, that is those companies making you pay extra, you don't want to pay then don't play those games or use the service.

PS3's and Wii have the same exact problem, oh but you don't have to pay for the base online service... that's why they will never be as good as XBox Live.

Really people if all you are going to do is complain about every move MS makes please install Ubuntu, sell your XBox, and just stop, nobody likes a hypocrite. You are the same, self entitled crybabies that complain when MS bans people for playing pirated games.

+1

If only I could use my wireless 360 controller on the PS3...
I guess I'll attempt one of those mods to put the 360 controller's guts in a PS3 DS3 shell (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Also, good thing I already pre-ordered 14 months of Live for £30.99.

The point is, they sold the upgrades to xbox live at the E3 conference a couple of months ago. Making SURE to point out that its all going to cost the same amount that people are paying now. So of course, people bought into the idea and people went gaga over the new slim model and bought it. Now they are basically going back on that and saying, "ok NOW we're going to increase prices a bit". So who is really the hypocrite here? People getting banned for playing pirated games is simply common sense. People bitching because there is a price increase for a service that they were just told 2 months ago wasnt going to increase makes total sense. Don't be a flamer. People can bitch about whatever they want. Thats what forums are for. Go ahead and keep paying when they increase the prices. And btw, xbl may be the best online service available, but that doesnt make it infallible.
