this would be illegal under uk electronic law and will lead to more piracy guaranteed

besides once you have played an ea sports game i.e. fifa you have played them all, i personally think they have a cheek to bring out a new version of the same game from the year before and just change the names and menus then charge 40 quid for it (thats around 75$ for the usa peeps)

Sorry this will lead to MASS PISSING OFF of consumers the ammount of times ive bought a game and some theiving **** has nicked the promo code out of the box then i have to treck back to the shop and complain and quite a few times the shop has used the "oh its a bonus feature you only paid for the game" line im sorry shops NEVER EVER manage to remove everything from box before putting it on display, so im guessing at least 40% of these codes will be nicked by second hand game buyers or pirates and it will be legitimate users who have to pay for it......(regardless of wether it be the $10 fee or petrol/bus costs) complete bs as always

WTF! Why does EA always do stupid stuff like  this???

because people get outraged, people say they are going to boycott the game, and then they go out and buy ea's latest game in record numbers on launch day.

plain and simple, if people buy it, they will continue this, and if people don't, than the policy won't be in future games. mass effect 2 and bad company 2 both sold well, so now ea is expanding their war on the used games market.

i'm sure it will tie to both, in the same way that any other dlc does.

it is no secret that game developers and console manufactured would like to put GameStop and the like out of business.

Piracy plays a part but as far as these game manufacturers are concerned used game sales are no better than piracy since they see no revenue from both.

Very true - only the gamestops/Game/GameStations of the world benefit from used sales. Whether or not this is a wise move, it will most certainly change the face of EA Games' Pre-Owned market.

not entirely accurate, as plenty of individuals sell their games on places like ebay and amazon, but your main point that used sales doesn't benefit the publisher is spot on.

This might actually work out better for the consumers , then for EA....
Example.....
I ONLY play shooters online.....The rest of the games I could care less about....so I sell my code online, undercutting the 10 dollars to EA.....Therefore getting my game 8 dollars cheaper , since I made 8 back from the code sales....
The cost of a used game will be reduced from the re-seller, since people will know they need to pay 10 bucks more for online....UNLESS they come buy it from ME or someone else selling a code....

Never the less, neither EA or the used retail market takes advantage of the money...only the consumers......

Wow this screws over the renters too.  It's a shame, a live gold subscription should be enough.
I can see this decision making sense on the free PSN service, but it's a bit silly for paying xbox live users.

Well, actually it doesn't screw renters, unless they rent the same game more than once, or keep it for more than a week.

I'm one of the people who stood in a midnight launch line in order to get my bfbc2... not sure that I like these ideas, tho. Just another way to make the consumer pay multiple times for the same thing. Ownership of the keys should be transferrable - no need for someone to keep a code if they sell their game. EA has done nothing to assist in the sale of the used game. Their serverload would be the same whether the original owner or the new owner are playing.

Anyway, I've been buying more PS3 titles lately because PSN is free. Moves like this, however, make me want to boycott the publisher. Grrrr...

Nice move to cash in on those who buy used, but they aren't the first ones to pull this strategy.
I buy my games new so yay me smile.gif

I see this as EA's way to make money of the used game market. Places like Gamestop I would think would now need to lower their prices on such titles, if you consider their typical price then having to pay the extra online expense then that drives consumer price up enough to where you minus well buy the title new. Will also mean their trade in value on such titles will also decrease (not that they offer anything good now as it is). As far as piracy it's kinda 50/50 the hardcore pirates who refuse to buy anything will no longer be getting online but the casual pirate who buys occasionally will see it as $10 is better than $60. Either way EA stands to finally make something off the used game market.
